A Picture to give Timmay a Heart Attack

Obviously you have never driven or talked in depth to a guy who has driven a rig like that set up for this kind of hauling. Brutal to say the least. The Fords and the Topkicks/Kodiaks all have a history of the same problem, vibration tearing the cab to shreds. I'm not talking about rollbacks or wreckers, I'm talking about rigs like that set up with fifth wheel or goose neck hitches.
Every guy that I have talked to (which really ain't that many) has had the same problem with the bottem of the cab begining to seperate at all the welds because of vibration. Go out to the Auto Auctions down in Obetz some day and talk to the guys loading the cars, they'll tell you the same thing I am. And Ford has a history of shity clutches in anything medium duty that they sell. Try getting it serviced if you use it commercially even if you bought it as such, they (Grahm Ford at least and one of the suppliers in Cinncinati) will not touch it, they claim it wasn't designed for that kind of use even though it clearly has the GCVWR for it.

As far as you not being able to believe it, oh well /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I wasn't the one who started the deal about not everyone liking Fords so don't roll your eyes at me, I'll poke em out while your not looking/forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I worked for S&S truck in Groveport until they relocated and that was what we did, and body work on real semi's.

If I had a choice between the cabs offered on the MD Fords (anything over 550), Topkick/Kodiaks and a Silverado, SD Ford . . . I'd take the modded one ton anyday. More comfortable, easier to drive, maint. is easier (for the most part)And Ford offers the same engines and trannys in the one tons (450, 550) as it does in the heavier rigs. I can get a Duramax and an Allison in my 1 ton Silverado too. But I'd rather have a CTD in a Dodge, that'll out pull the Duramax and the Powerstroke anyday of the week.

I know you're a smart guy and really know your stuff, but take it from someone in the industry these kind of rigs are on the road everyday all over the place because overall TCO is cheaper.

You guys want to see the scary and the stupid...come around my way this fall for Harvest time. Farmers off all sorts pulling wagons WAY over the rating for their pickups most farmers around here only get Z71s(chevrolet being the most common pickup around here). They are pulling 600 to 700 bushel wagons into town with them. To give you an idea of how much weight that is...56 pounds to a bushel of corn times 600 is 33600 pounds or 16.8 tons...plus figureing in how much the wagon itself would weigh empty and if you think thats bad...Ive seen one guy pull in a Brent 640(600 bushel wagon) with a SAMURI...a freaking Suzuki Samuri...crazy ole coot anyway.
Ive been known to quite a bit with my pickup but if you are smart about it and give yourself pleny of room to stop etc. Your typically ok, and If I know I cant pull it in high range I dont pull it down the road.

Now when we go to the larger 1 ton Deisel trucks...maybe one or two around where i live are stock. The rest have larger exhaust/Turbos/Chips/Banks Six Gun type stuff on them. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif yet i know of only one guy that has done anything to improve his brakes, more then just putting a trailering brake system into his truck

The difference with the farmers is they are typically on back roads doing at most 20mph, and are usually not going that far.

When you see a farmer with a loaded Parker or Brent Wagon goin down Highway 20 doin 40 with a wagon rated for 18 you come and tell me that again... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You hush now /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif We have a Brent wagon, it holds 700 bushel, has 4 wheel brakes...you can't even tell it's there when you stop.... /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif/forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif heck thats only about 50,000 pounds anyway /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I just love it when some farmer pulls a parker wagon or some such into town and the thing wanders from side to side about 8 feet. You can't even get around him for fear of being side swiped. Hilarious. What they do doesn't bother me much until they do it in the middle of the night with no fricking lights on the wagon and you can't see the lights on the truck in front of it that's for sure. OH, I could tell ya a story about that stuff.

I grew up in central Nebraska, I'm used to seeing that too.

My folks place was across the street from the grain elevator, so we used to have those rigs running up and down the street and parked in front of our house.

Yeah, my idiot farmer friends do it too.

Amazing that my buddy's dad's 1/2 ton has had 5 engines in 300,000 miles.
