1/2 ton status
Obviously you have never driven or talked in depth to a guy who has driven a rig like that set up for this kind of hauling. Brutal to say the least. The Fords and the Topkicks/Kodiaks all have a history of the same problem, vibration tearing the cab to shreds. I'm not talking about rollbacks or wreckers, I'm talking about rigs like that set up with fifth wheel or goose neck hitches.
Every guy that I have talked to (which really ain't that many) has had the same problem with the bottem of the cab begining to seperate at all the welds because of vibration. Go out to the Auto Auctions down in Obetz some day and talk to the guys loading the cars, they'll tell you the same thing I am. And Ford has a history of shity clutches in anything medium duty that they sell. Try getting it serviced if you use it commercially even if you bought it as such, they (Grahm Ford at least and one of the suppliers in Cinncinati) will not touch it, they claim it wasn't designed for that kind of use even though it clearly has the GCVWR for it.
As far as you not being able to believe it, oh well /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I wasn't the one who started the deal about not everyone liking Fords so don't roll your eyes at me, I'll poke em out while your not looking/forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
I worked for S&S truck in Groveport until they relocated and that was what we did, and body work on real semi's.
If I had a choice between the cabs offered on the MD Fords (anything over 550), Topkick/Kodiaks and a Silverado, SD Ford . . . I'd take the modded one ton anyday. More comfortable, easier to drive, maint. is easier (for the most part)And Ford offers the same engines and trannys in the one tons (450, 550) as it does in the heavier rigs. I can get a Duramax and an Allison in my 1 ton Silverado too. But I'd rather have a CTD in a Dodge, that'll out pull the Duramax and the Powerstroke anyday of the week.
I know you're a smart guy and really know your stuff, but take it from someone in the industry these kind of rigs are on the road everyday all over the place because overall TCO is cheaper.
