my buddy had a 4-door nomad back in the day.. DD Speed just recently finished up hacking a 2-door.. forget if it's a 5, 6 or 7...



any of you guys watch John Doc?

Dan's Nomad is a '55, and in his defense he started with a parts car. I say kudo's for getting it back on the road, in service, and building what he likes. Almost anyone else would have robbed the few good parts left and cut up the rest.

I've never heard of a 4 door Nomad...I'm no expert in Nomads but I feel like the "2 door" part was one of the defining features that made a Nomad a Nomad.
 
Never seen something like that happen.
Seen it a few times. Those guys were told at one point to stick it in the wall like that if the throttle hung open to avoid backing into the water box at speed. May or may not have been what happened here, but worth knowing

Never liked being down at the line for license passes. Usually the cars were as suspect as the drivers

As far as tri-fives go, there is no such thing as a 4 door Nomad. You could get a 4 door Bel Air wagon in all three years but they were called Beauvilles, not Nomads.

Now if you were talking about a 1958 or later Nomad it would be a 4 door.

There were, but oddly enough they were not the 2 door versions from 64/65 but were on the 68-72 Chevelle Wagons. They recycled the name again for a sporty G-van model in 78-81.

Nomads as Drag cars did happen as the wagons had better weight distribution with more mass over the rear tires to help hook up. In the 60's they were just another wagon by most standards and as such wasn't so crazy to cut up and race back then.

I've seen this image floating around the web. '57 under the Motion banner. By the look of the front wheel, the pic was probably from the 70's.

I have seen some license passes that did not go well, but I never saw one that went as bad as bad as the one in the video I posted.
 
Well I have, but only by virtue of living at the track for about a decade and a half. Seen a few blow up engines as well :haha:

I have seen a couple of Top Fuel license passes over the years where at the hit of the throttle the car made a hard turn, and went straight into the wall.
 
We got to see an alcohol BBC Dragster, (that wouldn't come out of reverse), stick the throttle open, when he blipped it. 200 ft backwards through the burn out box, totaled a pull vehicle, flew over 2 motorcycles, and stopped 4 pit boxes deep in the pits. Only the driver was hurt.
