Allis-Chalmers tractor purchase. Now, The Old Tractor thread. Post yours.

Lots of new members since I was last active.

Anyone in MN attending the nowthen, or almelund threshing shows? I'll be pulling at now then for sure. Maybe Almelund too.
That's a long way from Bikini Atoll.

Looking forward to the pictures

@streetrodchev thanks for all the pics

Next time you guys get close to an Oliver, can you get some more detailed pictures?

What the hell is that new Holland combine doing there!? LoL

For some reason I feel like bents favorite tractor is probably the cockshutt...

I missed out on an Oliver Super 77 with a loader and a cab for $1500 several years ago--I stopped at a yard sale, and the guy who lived there turned out to be a guy I knew,he was a mechanic at the John Deere place just down the road, and he always got good "trade in" deals from there to flip for profit..
It had a straight 6 ,I think a Continental engine, and it ran good,he said it had 2 burnt valves and he did a valve job on it..it was in real decent condition too, always been stored in a barn..

I wanted the thing bad, told him I'd give him the $100 I had on me for a deposit, but he said "Naaa, just come back tomorrow with the full amount"..(it was Sunday and my bank was closed,no ATM then either)--when I returned the next day, someone else was just finishing strapping it on their trailer....he said "Sorry man,I didn't think you'd come back--that guy just gave me $1800 for it.."
The guy offered to sell it to me for $2000,and deliver it to my house, but I didn't have that much..thing had down pressure, loaded tires and a counterweight on the 3 point hitch too..I was pissed!..

About a year later I saw another Oliver nearly identical to it closer to home for sale, just the tractor though,no loader, cab, or other attachments --priced at $700 B/O...
I think it may have been the same one, that was "stripped" and they just wanted the tractor gone, the guy had several other farm tractors all over his property..I passed on it though,I wanted a loader..

Probably different out east but here in the farm belt you could buy a 40s tractor like that all day everyday.
Oliver, Farmall, John Deere, etc narrow front, loader, now once you start getting wide fronts and into the late 50s prices seem to rise. But still 2500 buys you a decent unit into the mid 60s.

Why anyone would want a narrow front loader is beyond me. I have used them before. Not a fan.

That Oliver had a wide bucket & front end,it wasn't a tricycle tractor..and the loader was a nice one, factory built out of square tubing..not all welded up or bent either..
I'd never want a trike tractor, especially for a loader..its scary enough on a wide front end one..maybe just to show at tractor pulls,my friend had a J-D trike and that thing was a death trap..he flipped it twice and was lucky he wasn't badly hurt or killed..

My 641 Ford had a strange loader, made by Wagner I think, was pipe framed and had a dinky bucket not even as wide as the front wheels, and no down pressure either--it had a cylinder cobbed onto the scoop,I think it was a trip bucket originally..neither the tractor or the loader was the hot setup,no down pressure, and the tractor was too fast even in first gear, you were constantly slipping the clutch--it was better than no loader, but not by much!..

Mostly I used it to hoist heavy things ,I put a rotted chevy pickup cab in my truck bed with it once and that was about its maximum lift capacity--thing felt like it was flexing a lot while lifting it up too..someone welded angle iron to the radius arms to beef them up..
I paid $1800 for it from a tractor dealer in NH...
Tractors here aren't that rare, but finding one priced under $3000 with a loader is,that is operational..641 ford tractor.jpg

Trivia Fact:
Allis-Chalmers was instrumental in early X-Ray development and production. They made some huge ones.
