Another bad U-joint????

Success! I put the bolts just past finger tight (double bolted) and drove it a good 15 miles. The u- joint is no longer getting hot. Not sure if its a bent yoke or if the bolts were just too tight, but either way it's fixed! Ya hoo. Thanks for all the input guys. Still keeping an eye out for a replacement driveshaft and yoke, but its certainly a lower priority now.

I might have a driveshaft and a yoke for you.
I will check on the yoke I know what to look for.
I need the measurements off your shaft, collapsed and extended.

By the way, part of your problem is the cheap ujoints.
I use dana spicer for reason, the caps are so strong you can tighten the ubolts with no problems

42" collapsed, 45" extended. That tip of ear to ear, not center to center on the U-joints.

Ya, you might be right. If I get a replacement driveshaft, I would likely put in some good ones. Eventually replacing this one has always been the plan, so I was just running cheap stuff in it.

If I have the right shaft it will have good joints in it

This might qualify for ck5 post of the day, or dont we have some thread for that?
Well I haven't contributed to that thread in years I guess I was due.
The funny part is I posted then I saw that I missed the f on shaft, so I fixed immediately, just didn't notice the way the whole sentence looked

Well shit....

(Just kidding)

Update:

The loosening of the U-joints seems to have solved the issue long term.

I drove the rig for a couple of hours, sometimes at speeds of 70 mph, and after all of that - the front U-joint was no hotter than the T-case that its bolted to. The cops on the toke were warmer than the caps on the driveshaft, but that's because of heat transfer from the T-case. So I guess I'm good to go until I can find a non-bent / non-dented driveshaft.

I still have not had the time to go to my storage and look for a driveshaft.
I haven't forgotten though
