1976 K5 Blazer Camper (Midland) Date: 2012-01-30, 9:28AM EST Reply to: [email protected] I have a '76 K5 Blazer Camper that needs work but could be fixed up. Is sitting in my lawn and needs to go ASAP! Text or Call (989)-600-9361
I emailed the person who placed the ad, she says it is her boyfriend's Chalet - just the camper unit, no Blazer - and that if someone can come and take it away, it is free.

Of course, y'all will have to get that confirmed on your own. Doesn't sound like they have an immediate need to dump it, but I could be wrong there, too. Haven't received any pics yet....

It's probably all rusty lol...

There have been this one or one like it in that area listed for years. Possibly it's changed hands. There used to be pictures and it really looked rough. I just can't see trying to start with only a shell and piecing everything together. I think getting seats, table, canvas, applicances, etc. would have to cost more than finding a whole Chalet. And I couldn't think of any ideas for it I really liked besides turning it back into a camper. What I thought would be nice about starting nearly from scratch would be the possibility to reinforce the structure enough to make it easily removeable. That's what I would really like to have - a drop-in camper.

I saw the posts about the white Chalet in Portland and it got me started again on my Chalet quest. So I was trying to see if anything was close by.:dunno::D

I replied to the ad, if they still have it and it's in ok shape I'll be taking a ride... I've been looking for an orphaned shell for a few years now.

Difficult for fiberglass to rust.

There is some steel framing inside, and to hold up the poptop ...but the shells themselves are fiberglass.

Well, seeing as it's in Michigan, it could very possibly be that the Blazer part has rusted into nothingness, leaving only the Chalet shell behind...:dunno:

One of my many dreams is to build a Suburban Chalet, but I doubt that it'll ever happen.

I called, texted, and emailed. No response... I'm guessing she and the boyfriend kissed and made up, or somebody snagged it already. I wish more of these had migrated east....

Me too. It would also be nice to have a newer model Chalet. What's involved in turning a 91 K5 into a Chalet?

You need stiffer rear springs or something to compensate for the weight, then there is the difference in the floors, but that's just a creative solution issue. Otherwise they pretty much bolt right on. You have a rear bumper issue, but that's not a big deal to overcome. Probably some small wiring issues too. I think it'd be perfect for camping and towing my dirt bikes for my son and I.

My blazers already the right colors for one...

I love the 70's!!!

Got some pics from the guy selling the Suburban w/ Chalet. Its got some rust and is 2WD.

Not sure if the SN was captured on the Chalet list. But here is a pic of the data plate he sent me.

I really enjoy the softopper! This is my K5's last winter on the road, then it's getting retired. I have too much $$$$ in it to drive it in the salt anymore. It's going to be a camping, mtn biking, dirt biking, fly fishing, etc, rig. Plus, it's my daily driver, it cost me $93 to fill up yesterday... I wasn't even on empty! Gas prices are climbing with no end in sight, so its time to make it the ultimate weekend warrior.
I would love a solid chalet shell, it's easier to retrofit what I would want inside vs a full restore. Seats, table, etc are easy to make and replace. I most likely wouldn't reuse the old appliances anyhow. We camp quite a bit already, and use an electric skillet and our portable propane stove more than anything, and we almost always cook outside. One of these years I will find one...

practically free one in Dallas. Chalet spelled wrong in the title, prob isn't on Russel's searcheshttp://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/2794581099.html
I think that one got snagged by one of the newest guys to join our Yahoo chalet forum, it's #0505.
Serial #s /build dates for the above are #0714 / 8/76 (the guy has been trying to sell it at least since Feb 2011); #1488 / 12/76; and #0199 / 7/76 (back for sale by the same guy selling it in 2010.

Yep, got it from him last year or so, but I had it typo'd this whole time as #0591. Grrrr. This is why I never turn down any sort of alerts on these. Also, I don't know what's wrong with my couple of bookmarked search pages, they aren't picking up this one.

I'll email the seller and see if I can find out what happened. Things happen sometimes, I found one ad several years ago that was yanked after a few hours, the one ownerseller got overruled by the other ownerkeeper.. Never saw it again...

Free Chalet Shell

This shell is still available. I was searching the internet and found this forum. If someone doesn't come and snatch it for free, we are going to be forced to just scrap it. It's kind of funny to read what everyone has to say about what the Chalet is probably like and that the Blazer is probably toast lol.

The Blazer is NOT wasted. It's in awesome condition. For some reason when we sold the blazer the guy did not want the top.. no idea why. The Chalet has been outside obviously, but it has had a tarp over it. If anyone is interested I can run out to the old house and take some pictures.
