ARAMP1's Ultimate TowRig Build Thread

well I should have been sleeping by now, but I enjoyed the last two hours listening to the sounds of them detroits :)

LOL! They're in Knob Noster, MO. It's not a sexual position, it's an actual place.

My family is from the bootheel. I thought it would be an even smaller world for you if we were from the same part of MO and lived somewhat close when you were in MS too.

nice Ventura don't see alot of those running around,
I'm with you it disgusts me to see a Chevy in a Pontiac I'm a Pontiac nut also.

Ahh but the LS3 powered G8 is the best factory Pontiac muscle car in at least 3 decades. :deal:

Unfortunately it will be the last. :(

What will be the length of the stroke?

And what would be the maximum stroke length?

That looks like a very taaaaall block!!!

did u buy him dinner? I wouldnt think one would get so personal on sizes without buying dinner first!!!!!!!!! :haha:

this is the first ive seen of this thread....... youre my hero.

Ive always toyed with the idea of a 4-53T in the blazer, But for wheeling, i figured it was just too heavy, I can get the same torque, and better hp out of a 599 6.5TD, in a bolt in 700lbs package. But If i ever get around to building a pickup, or tow rig, a Detroit powerplant with a polished valvecover sticking through the hood is just the ticket. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right ;)

Thanks!

I'm deployed at the moment and I still have a lot of stuff to do. Anyway, I don't know how much time I'll have to work on the truck when I get back. My wife and I are expecting our first and second children. That's right, she's pregnant with twins! So, I need to get my truck up and going pretty quick after I get back. I've got a lot left to do, but my goal is to get it running by winter.

Here's a list of things yet to do:
Run the fuel lines, filters and dual feed valve
Set up the cooling system
Plumb the intercooler/intake (the hydroboost interferes with the stock detroit intake)
Plumb the air for the starter
Set up hydraulic clutch
Smooth out the firewall
Install the Vintage Air A/C
Install the front and rear seats (Rear seats optional, front seats mandatory)
Fab brackets and install the Alternator, Power Steering Pump, Air Pump and A/C Compressor
Get the driveshafts made
Fab up the dash, buy gages and sending units

Well, I figured I'd post some updates of some stuff that I did before I deployed.

Here's the transmission going in. The transmission I ended up going with is an Roadranger RTO-610. It weighs around 300 lbs.

I wanted to keep the driveline at the same position in the chassis, so when I mounted the engine that's what I did. Well, the transmission take up a lot of space in the floor, so I ended up lifting the body 3 inches. I was on the fence about doing it from the beginning, but it will actually give me more space and a lower transmission hump than stock. And, there will be no need to cut a hole in the hood for the valve cover...which my wife loves because it looks (and I quote) "less redneck".

Here's where it sits now, waiting for me to get back home and finish her up.

Thanks for your service:bow:.

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread, your rig is sick!

Good luck with the coming additions to the family. I have 4, it is great frustration, great fun and worth every second.

Thanks. It has been frustrating buying double of everything (high chairs, car seats, cribs, etc). But we're excited.

How much power does that motor make?
I'll be dynoing it after I get the swap done.

Congrats on the twins.:wink1: When are they due?
Early to mid Sept.

Great. Mine is due mid August. He started off as twins so we went through the whole thing of needing to get extras. Fortunately my daughter is four so most of her stuff is still in decent shape. Good luck to you with them.:wink1:
