ARAMP1's Ultimate TowRig Build Thread

Can't leave the hole--gotta fix it (if it goes into the "tank"). If nothing else, peen the edges to close the hole somewhat and there is an aluminum rod that, with the proper flux, will seal it up no problem. It is what was used on my custom a/c fittings and they hold over 325psi. Check with a welding store. It is like aluminum brazing rod for lack of a better explanation (or proper name for that matter).
I don't think it goes all the way into the tank, but just to be safe, I plan on drilling it out and TIGing it up. Might as well fix it now and forget about it.

Well, we're getting ready for the big move this coming week...Heading from OKC to P-Cola. I've spent most of the day organizing stuff around the house. And, I got a chance to button a few things up on the truck. I put the radiator panel, fenders and inner finders on. With all that on the truck and the radiator in, it really gives you a sense of how big this engine really is and how little space I'll have left once everything is together. I was debating using electric fans versus a mechanical one. The argument for a mechanical fan is that with an air starter, I won't need any electrical system at all to start and drive this truck, but the electric fans will use less power. Well, now I've pretty much made up my mind that a mechanical fan will definitely not fit and an electric one is going to be really tight. Anyway, here's how she sits now.

I'm so pissed at myself for doing that! I can probably pop most of it out and it won't be too big of an issue. Oh well. Life goes on.

Glad to see you'll be in our area when you get it running, should be really neat to see. :pimp:

Now on the road headed to our new home in Florida (Lower Alabama).

Good luck on the ride. If for any reason you need something on the trip post up there's plenty of folks available.

Speak up once you get settled in. If you're interested we'll get together and break bread. :thumb:

That'd be great!

Well made it to P-cola safe and sound. Only had a couple hitches along the way.

1) The brace that I welded up and bolted between the frame rails to mount the tow bar to came loose about 50-60 miles outside of pensacola. I checked it at every fuel stop along the way, but it seems like those alabama back roads were rough enough to loosen the bolts. I probably should have put some lock tight on it, but I was almost there, so I just tightened them up and it wasn't a big deal.

2) Got pulled over on I-10 at a weight station/ag inspection station. I didn't see the sign that everyone had to stop (thought it was just a commercial weight station) and blew buy it, but the weird thing was that it set off some kind of code on their side of the transponder saying that I was a weight station violator of some sort. I explained to him that I didn't have an in cab transponder and he basically saw that I was moving. He was a good ole boy and we bullsh!tted about chevy trucks for about 5-10 minutes. He spent more time looking over my truck than anything else. Seemed like the type of guy that I'd hang out with.

ya last i know of uhaul/budget/penske trucks dont need to stop. big loop hole for overweight trucks there.

times are changing tho. so like you found be on the lookout for new laws of stoping in weight stations. your lucky you got threw with no tickets . cause if thay have to come for you thay tend NOT to be nice.
