Back In the Saddle Again

Got all the leaks buttoned up on the blazer.

Alright, so AC this year is out of the question. It’s lake season and I want to get out there and camp.

Been toying around with the idea of making a cooler/AC unit. Still usable as a cooler but also will blow cold air into the bed of the blazer as that’s where I’ll be sleeping.

Need a good inverter and or solar power supply.
Suggestions?

Haven't had any luck tracking down a truck tailgate. Not buying new.

I am almost considering taking Burban barn doors and cutting the windows out and mounting to the rear of the K5. Think it would be really cool and would give the doors on the rear the action I want. What do you think?

I like the idea.
And if anyone can do it, it's probably you

I’m getting pretty tired of lifting that damn glass everyday hahaha

It just seems like it only gets heavier. Now I have to push the tailgate in to get it to go down and unlatch and then let it down.

If I can find some barn doors I’ll do that for sure.

I have seen guys do full barn door conversions on the back of their k5’s. Did they have to use the inner sub quarters? I’d be pretty interested in talking to a guy who has done the conversion if anyone knows anyone.

You have a soft top take the glass out and sell it on evil bay, motor and mechanism too.

This is my plan. Albeit a very long term one.

Well, started the truck today and I hear a ticking sound. Sounds like a broken flex plate. Inspect the flex plate and don’t see any cracks. Made sure bolts were tight.

Sound only happens in P and Driven Gears. No sound in Neutral.

Stuck a flash light up in the tranny on the flex plate and I can’t see a crack. Bumped the engine over. Inspected it. Nothing.

I noticed some slight teeth marks. On the flex plate from the starter.

Started the truck and inspected the flex plate and torque converter while running in park. The sound is definitely coming from that area. Starter was properly disengaged.

Me thinks I need a new flex plate.

If they crack at or near the center it’s almost impossible to see until the trans is out of the way.

I had one do it that way and it ate starters. Thought it was a starter issue but who gets 5 bad ones? Pulled the engine to swap in a 350 and found the cracks at the bolt holes.

Get some 6" 3/8 bolts put in lower bellhousing slide that tans back.
Loosen fan shroud and dist cap, so you can get a little tilt

Yep, I’m pretty certain it’s the flex plate. Guess I’ll get on it this weekend.

Got off the phone with the shop who has had my Tacoma. They finally put a quote together for me for the head gasket. So I should have my daily back in another 3 months :rotfl:

They are busy and it’s hot. And I really don’t mind it taking a long time as long as it’s done right. Doing the water pump, timing belt etc etc while they are in there even though I just did those a couple years ago.

But……this means the K5 can sit on jack stands for a while once I get my taco back
