Back In the Saddle Again

To paint the fire wall or not. I’m leaning towards who gives a crap I just want to drive the thing but then again when will I ever have this access again? Hahaha
I've been tempted to do the same while my motor is out, but I am torn by the idea of half-assing it. If i'm painting the firewall, i'm pulling everything off it first, and that's just more work.

I would start by cleaning the firewall since you would need to clean it before painting anyway. Then decide whether or not to paint it.

Even with the motor mounts in the correct position front/back I am unable to get them to fit between the cross member side to side. So I have two options. Buy expensive motor mounts or drill new holes in the cross member to allow it to work. Spent this entire morning trying to get them to line up and I’m throwing in the towel. Maybe if I could pry from the side and bottom at the same time I could maybe get it to line up but it’s like 1” off. So motor is coming back out.

I did a lot of research in prep for this install and purchased known locating brackets that have been used countless times. I think if I had a spare set of hands and biceps I could finagle it in. I got it to about 1/2” away. I think what’s happening is the motor isn’t perfectly square in between the frames. I may need to ratchet strap and try to only lift one side to get it to line the holes up.

There was no way the mounts were going to work. No matter how we finagled it. Destroyed the passenger side clam shell in the process. Tried to do it the cheap way and learned a lesson a should have already known.

Now that the whole drivetrain is out I will get everything preppred at the same time. New 32 spline input shaft in the 208. I’ll get the nv4500 sealed up and mounted to the 208. I’ll get the floor prepped for the shifters and the pedal assembly installed. Still need to fabricate a bracket for the ramcharger 208 stick so now that will be easier to do. Nothing a few long nights can’t solve lol

There are SBC and BBC mounts. I had to use BBC on one install to use the stock holes.
Yeah that must be what the difference is. There was so much lore on the net about SBC and BBC mounts and if there even was a difference but there definitely is a difference
