Banging noise from np241 then no 4wheel drive

Not really, am not terribly familiar with the insides of a 241
Well we will know when I tear it apart.
I acquired a np241 but it's 27 spline how easy will it be to swap inputs. I saw ord and others have them. 
Thats what I was planning. Just haven't ripped one apart before.
It's not bad, just have to split the case.
Washed the new t case. 
If I still have 2wd that means the input is in working order?
Yeah and they are fairly robust. I would be surprised if it’s not the front output shift fork actually
this is an extreme example of what many people diagnose as a chain slipping. My understanding is that the chain is not a factor in 2wd.I've been into 3 with at least a little wear on the range fork.
I've never heard of a catastrophic and complete chain failure, but then, I'm not a mechanic, builder, ....I just work on stuff.
Did the chain break or just finally stretch enough to wreck everything?
I rebuilt my ‘91 np241 32 spline today and its pretty simple. The only special tool you need is a good set of big snap ring pliers and a 1-1/8” socket for the front output.
Tomorrow afternoon I'll start the dissasembly and removal of the broken t case and pressure wash the underside of the truck.
I don't know if my chain slipped. I imagine that's what the inside of my t case looks like.
Best place to get shift fork pads for the np241?

What year is the tcase? If it has aluminum forks the pads are usually molded in and you have to replace the fork.
