Banging noise from np241 then no 4wheel drive

You won't know until you open them both up. 2 complete t- cases, I think you have a good chance at making 1 decent one. It certainly won't be as nice as a rebuild, but it should be usable.
I plan to rebuild the broken one this winter.

We're all curious for you to crack it open, or at least I am. Quality snap ring pliers, correct synchro direction. It is really quite simple once you see it.
I think I got a seal kit that included the Teflon (?) pads some time ago.
I have a 241 on a workbench that I will do bearings and seals, etc. probably this fall. Haven't really checked in to sye as that gets spendy real fast and I don't really need it.

I don't want the sye either.

How do I date my 241?
Start off by talk’n really sweet to it and go from there…but remember no means no!

Or if I missed judged what you said the round tag on it should give you a build date.
If ya only need the year a 241 with no VSS is. an 89 and those with are 90 & 91.

Soooooo I'm a idiot and flame away as you like but I made a rookie mistake.

When I looked at my truck everything looked like the shift linkage was still attached correctly (it was dark and I was on the beach) the shifter came out of the t case arm when I looked at it today the shift rod broke the cotter pin and that's why I didn't have 4x4. So I think my case is ok, I just found a leaky water pump and I need to fix that. Once water pump is fixed I'll take it for a test drive.

Here’s my take away on that:

You looked at it again and evaluated it instead of just gripping and ripping and missing the evidence

There’s a lot of people that don’t do that and then can’t figure out what is wrong with a working t case

Thank you for the vote of confidence in me. That's a huge thing I miss in my self. I just felt like double checking again. But I now I have a spare I'll order a input for it soon.

Everyone on here has missed something in the heat of the moment.
I broke and new built trans cause I didn’t seat it all the way after a long week doing it on a Friday night until 3am to fall asleep and the over driver wake me up in the driveway
