Battery relocation (Update: Now the questions start...)

Check eghey for cable, that is where I got mine and mini_mull got hers. I also got 2 (two) 4 foot lengths of adhesive shrink wrap for $16 apiece (1 red and 1 black).

I don't e-bay anymore.

One of the things on my $hit list.....which is getting longer everyday.

And yes I actually have a written $hit list....in my pocket everyday for ease of updating.

Some of the stuff on my list is pretty funny, and since I get humor out of it, I look at it pretty often. And it is not all businesses either.
For a long time PowerPoint was in the #1 spot.

How many feet of cable did you buy on e-bay?
I am not sure how many feet I will need for this project.

I bought 50 ft on a spool. Not sure how much I am gonna actually use. This is for dual batteries inside the K5, with cables run under the body up to the firewall to a remote solenoid and and ground cables.

Power cable is going to be the biggest investment, and even if there is a vendor here, I think you will find there isn't much flex in the pricing of copper wire. Copper prices are still sky high, and climbing, and this has no choice but to be passed down to the consumer. When my buddy shut down his automotive electrical shop, he had seen a 70% across the board increase in the cost of copper parts.

And I wouldn't trust anything smaller than the 1/0 for the distance you are running.

I drove around a little today and got some prices for the cable.

2/0 = $4.25 / ft :eek1:
1/0 can not be gotten around here then the sizes drop all the way down to 4 and 6.

Time for more searching.

I moved my battery to the bed. I bought a 25' roll of black 2 gauge. I have a short length left over. just make sure you do not hook it up backwards if you use the same color for both leads. I don't remember the exact price but it was expensive, something like $70 for it.

I don;t want to end up needing to redo any of this if I ever buy a winch, so I am going to go with the biggest wire I can afford.

Anyone use a distro block in the engine compartment to get to the starter, alternator...ect?

Yes when Steve did his in the tech section he put a 3/8 junction block on the firewall.

I will have one for + and one for - down on the frame where I ground the engine block. I will also use them to connect jumper cables and my winch so I do not have to run extra cables inside to the batteries.

I saw that ya smartass...
I thought those were for passing the cable through a bulkhead, not as a terminal like that.
Got a like to where you bought them?
