BENDER stays in hibernation with me

I wasn't a fan of putting the high beam in the DIY location, so I used one of two bulb holes in the back of the speedo for a brighter blue LED. All the gauges have a "cool white" LED bulb in them. I'll try to get some pictures tonight.

Very cool!!!!! Love that dash!! You have done a lot of work. It paid off well!! Looks killer. Congrats:waytogo:

I also wasn't a huge fan of the hardware that came with the dash. There is nothing wrong with it, but I really like SS stuff and liked the idea of doing a countersunk screw head.

Well, the screws that I used are a machine screw, so they need a nut on the backside. You can't get a wrench on them once the panels are in place, so I JB welded the nut and washer to the backside of the holes. Sprayed everything with an underbody coating (to reduce noise or tinny sounds from the dash) and then painted the front with flat black and then a bedliner product from Home Depot. All the removable panels are painted in a flat black, a textured paint I found at Pepboys, and then a clear. I was originally going to do the whole dash this way, but found the panel paint too reflective if used on the top of the dash.

I asked Kert for a switch panel and he delivered nicely. I chose the color switches, some for normal operation and some for temporary operation. Example: My high beams, E-fan off, winch, dome, misc are all on orange switches. The green lights are for running lights, headlights, and the like. I'm only using 5 switches at the moment.

I cut a few extra holes in the dash for my rear window switch and two cigarette lighter plugs. The switch works perfect and is from a local place in town. (I talk about it in earlier posts if interested in ordering). The DC plugs are from Radio Shack and work awesome. All I needed to do was file a small ridge on the back; I think it was a locating pin in the holder they came with, but I wanted it completely round.

Thanks guys

Here are the gauges at night. They look sweet behind the steering wheel. The smaller ones are brighter than the larger ones. They are all fine enough not to mess with, but the brightness would be prefect if they all met in the middle. I like them dim though, like my DD.

You can see the difference in the speedo when I turn the High Beams on. :)

Here is the floor mat I'm going to use. It is normally used at building entrances, which is where I got the idea. I will put bedliner rubber on the entire floor, but for the driver and passenger area I will put this on top of the rubber. It is "3M Dirt Stop" and comes in 4x6. It was $100 off Amazon, which isn't bad considering it's exactly what I'm looking for....something flexible, sound deadening, and easily cleanable.

Looks awesome. Let us know if it can bury the needle on 120 mph. :eek1:
funny, when I bought the truck it didn't have any gauges. Drove it home 350 miles like that and then months after :D My friend in the chase truck said I hit 90 a few times. It's easy and the truck drives so nice and straight. 120 will be interesting

Kinda happy with the way things have come out. I got rid of the exhaust leak and weird noise on the firewall. Truck runs good, but the carb and dizzy are off. That's my next plan of action. The dizzy is set on the slowest advance curve and tops out at only 28* total. I also got the rest of the floor covered in bedliner rubber, WAAAY quieter than bare floor pan. It will remain like this until I can afford LineX, but the rubber would go over that anyway.

IT PASSED SMOG TODAY!!!!! WOOOOT WOOOOT

Congrats man!! Good work!!!

Looks great with that dash. If you are still having issues with that carb let me know and we can meet up and go through it. I had the almost exact same one as you with the TPS by the throttle linkage and ended up finding a 85' with fed emissions carb on it and none of that crap on it. I replaced mine with that after i rebuilt it and its money

hoping to have the carb back on this weekend
this will probably be the guys last chance to make some improvement, if it's still off then I'm not sure what I'll do.

Do you have any jets for these carb? I wouldn't mind just meeting someone from CK5, drive out to Hungry Valley or whatever. Or work on a project. I'll keep this updated with news of the carb install and some cage work coming up :)

I don't know how you guys can get an old truck like ours to pass a smog test. I salute you! Stuff like that must keep you on your toes and make you a better mechanic. Heck, my truck doesn't even have cats on it and it's all I can do just to keep it running. :haha:
