BENDER stays in hibernation with me

I don't know how you guys can get an old truck like ours to pass a smog test. I salute you! Stuff like that must keep you on your toes and make you a better mechanic. Heck, my truck doesn't even have cats on it and it's all I can do just to keep it running. :haha:

He did put a new motor and exhaust on

that always helps yes :D

but I lucked out when I passed it the first time, still had the tired 350 and the tranny was leaking from the cooler line :doah: dripping right on the smog guys floor

:haha:

FYI: that steering wheel I used has a black coating on the frame. I had to sand and wire wheel under the horn button. The horn wouldn't ground out on the frame, which is necessary, because of the coating. Once it was off, horn worked perfect.

Man I'm glad you posted that. My horn hasn't worked since I got my truck. I'll have to try what you said. Thanks.

Andyblack.. My horns didn't work as well when I bought my 87 K5. Discovered corroded connector on 1 horn under the grille. Cleaned the connecter with small wire brush, and fixed that one. 2nd horn was just dead. Picked up a horn at local auto parts shop for $25ish and the problem was fixed.

I got some tunes!!!!

I managed about an hour of freetime after work today, so built a box for my 5.25" Polk speakers. It fits perfectly and sounds awesome. These little things kick good inside this box. I'm so anxious to rock some AC/DC after I get the rear panels, 6x9s, and boxes made. For now I'm bumpin just the front speakers. I will Herculine the box once the rear panels are done, I'm coating them too :D I didn't want to do the side pods. I felt they would be in the way and vunerable considering my intended purpose for the rig. I'm sure if I angled the speakers to the sides, it might fill the cab better, but for what the truck is and how nice it sounds with just the two speakers.....I'm happy.

I chose Polk db series cause I couldn't bring myself to spend the money I did on my Polk Momo 6.5s for my daily driver, but I knew I had to have Polk again. Love them, fit well in this location too. I may upgrade the headunit down the road. I only has subwoofer output and is so/so, but it has an AUX jack for my IPod/Sansa/XM receiver which is great.

lol thanks
they are ok, I think the picture looks better than real life. I would, however, like some seat covers for them and the back bench, before I ruin them with water/mud, etc. Mid 90s chevy truck seats.

Oh, and this shot shows some of my bed rubber flooring :) I just bought 2 full size bed mats and cut them to fill in the whole floor. So much quieter and cooler.

Hit Hungry Valley/ Gorman up today. The truck did well, even had it on 2 wheels only and pretty balanced :) Scared the passengers :thumb:

I can't believe how hot the trans gets while offroading. It hung around 190-210 while climbing and navigating rutted trails. Engine stayed at 185-190, which is good, cause it was HOT out. (ps) monster non-fan tranny cooler installed and 180 T stat in motor.

I wish I had some video of the stuff I was climbing, the truck did really well. I wanted to re-climb this one trail/hill and get it on film, but coming down after the first attempt stalled the engine and that got REAL hairy. I had to put it in neutral a few times during various downhill runs, give it gas, and keep it from stalling. Hard brakes and no steering SUCKS MASSIVE ELEPHANT BALLS.

Here is the only pictures I got. Poser picks, couldn't get any higher with open diffs and AT tires, never mind the shocks where tapped out. For this picture, I only had 1/2" of shaft showing in the front, but I did get some de-arching going on. SWEET :D Dammit I wish I had my friend video some of the sh1t I got myself in, the teeter-toter event was AWESOME.

I always wondered where those concrete steps were at. I used to see pics of them in all the off road mags. Why are they out there like that?

These were inside the 4x4 proving grounds, with other obstacles and runs. They are there for exactly this purpose. :)

4wheelparts screwed up some stuff on my fathers truck (threw away old parts when I told them not to) so they stepped up and made me a little more happy. Just picked up 5125 Bilstein shocks, for $69 each, (2) 14" and (2) 12" travel medium valved shocks. Also, grabbed a frame repair kit while I was there. I'm 99% sure I don't have a cracked frame (cause it drives so nice) but figured I'll weld one on when swapping my 2wd steering box. Their repair kit was $69.

Hey buddy im glad to say I took the truck for a spin, temp was good, nice and torqy and seems to run at cruising speed about 300 rpms less than the 305:thumb:

Hows yours runnin??

I was reading about that. Sounds like that 305 was more than done. Hell, a fresh 4.3 v6 would have put a smile on your face lol

Mine is doing good, maybe 900 miles on it. The carb is finally rich enough to drive but still needs tuning. I've got an oil leak that is pissing me off at the moment, not to mention the power steering pump is leaking like a facet too. It might get put down again soon, just having too much fun driving it.

could it be your oil pan leaking?? Mine got a little loose after break in and leaked. Just needed some more tightening

timing cover and around the starter/torque converter

I like driving it so much that it's hard to address some of these things. It needs another good teardown. I might end up working on the leaks and suspension at the same time :)
