Bertha, picking up where Shewheeler left off.

Love it!

I didn`t know Shewheeler (before my time) but I sure she would be proud! :waytogo:

Why was it that you went with spring under in the front?
Don`t get me wrong...I like it and it`s different but I can`t remember what the advantage is for a desert truck.

Still looks spring over to me...?

me too Rene', I think Dean was smokin some of that crack mentioned earlier.

I'm diggin the dimples!

oh man oh man time to go dig the old skid out of the junk pile and drill some holes in it. That looks super cool

Glad to see her truck will live on.

Kind of makes you feel warm and fuzzy a bit.

Y'all are running amuck in my thread :haha:

I will just skip to the spring under :D

Why spring under ? I wanted low/no lift and some up travel without putting the springs into negative arch. I don't care what anyone tells you, negative arch kills springs. Spring under allows you to run a spring with some arch without a lot of lift. Another benefit is reduced axle wrap.

There is pretty much zero info on the net on doing this,so I read a lot and looked at a ton of pics of class 3 and 4 trucks. I was totally over thinking it in the beginning but then I started looking at how people went spring over.

I borrowed a 10 bolt from Avery4jc so i could still DD it while i did all this :D

A few minutes with a Portaband and a flap disc.

The spring perches started out as 2.5x.25 wall square tube. I machined .050 off to increase the surface the spring would be sitting on.

And I found out you get a lot better finish when all the inserts are tight :haha:

Are you two retarded!!

Pay attention and try to keep up... honestly!! :haha::haha:
Who is the one smoking the pipe! :dunno:

hahaha...got ya Dean...Rene' and I talked this over on the phone, and it was just a ploy to get you riled up....worked....:thumb:

Here be the passenger side perch :D

The sharp edeges were chamfered before i installed the axle.

I dont have the means at home to provide enough pre and post heat, so I had my local axle builder weld the passenger side perch to the cast. And the passenger side is boxed like the drivers side.

Since I didnt know exactly what I wanted or needed ,I wanted to exparament with an off the shelf spring. I ended up with a BDS 4" Wagoneer/Cherokee/J10 front spring. The length, width, and large eye is the same as the stock Chevy, and the center pin is offset 2" towards the large eye. The small eye is larger than the factory Chevy rear spring eye.

Bertha came with a set of ORD greaseable front bushings so I stuck them in the Jeep springs.

Here are the BDS springs next to the 4" Tuff Countrys.

The axle is held in with stock u bolts and u bolt plates that i cut down and modded to not look like stock u bolt plates :pimp:

An issue you will have running low/no lift and crossover is engine crossmember and drag link interference . Im going to fix that issue with an ORD engine crossmember. The crossover steering I have for it is a WFO kit complete with a Reid passenger side knuckle. None of thats on yet, but its next on the list when I get some time.

I call bs lol. And text me back dave. If ur on ck5 u can text :D:whistle:

Yeah right! Me too!!! I`ll stick with what I said in the first place. :flipoff1: :haha:

Sorry Friz...I really like this truck and your 55. :waytogo:
Awesome pics of what you have done. I look forward to seeing more.

As soon as I get the crossover on I can start on the front shock setup. I'm going to run Bilstein shocks and bumpstops because I can get racer prices and tuning support when we go out to Barstow to tune the 4402 truck. Eventually I want bypasses, but for now I'm going to run 7100s. I picked up a used 14" pair from thatk30guy for a decent price.

The rear will eventually be spring under also , but for now Im running stock K10 rear springs and shocks. I burned out the rubber bushings and replaced them with polly.

This is the absolute best tool ever for splitting bushing sleeves :pimp:

i love how this is turnin out and am already looking for another truck to mimic it:waytogo:
