Best Ratchet ever made?

I don't know how the newer model is, but this one was a lifesaver for a long time..

you can see I had to buy the adapter to run the newer slide-on bats in it cuz it took the older bats originally..

I got my first 1/2" drive Craftsman ratchet in 1996 and it lasted me until about 2007. Now I've had to have it replaced once and the replacement is slipping too. You just can't put a lot of torque on them. I've never used a cheater pipe or anything like that, but I have hit them with a hammer a time or two.

My point is that the quality seems to be diminishing on them.

For referance, here's a picture of my 3/8" drive ratchet drawer:

My 1/2" drive and 1/4" drive drawers look similar with what I think is a large variety, but I think for an all around go-to, the 3/8" drive is the best.

I have everything from old school 1930s and 40s Plomb and 50s/60s Craftsman to 70s/80s Bonney, Snap-On, Huskey (the old USA made) to later Mac, Blackhawk, Wright, Craftsman, Armstrong, etc.

To me, it's hands down the new Snap-On Dual 80. They're strong with a very small ratchet throw. They are my to-tos and I've never had any problems with them. A while back, Snap-on introduced a push button release which I really want to get just because my hands attract transmission fluid and oil and it seems like I'm spending half my time trying to get a grip on the socket. Though, any more, I usually bring multiple ratchets out for different sized sockets.

nice deal.. :D

most snappy can be had on eghey for 1/2 truck price lightly used if your patient... I've bought plenty from the pawn shops on there...

than you have the other moron's who post well-used items right at the truck price out of the book.... idjits.. :screwy:

Is that a "ratchet" or an impact wrench?

sorry, booourban had me a bit offtopic.. cordless impact..

I bought a brand new F80 off eBay...can't wait to get it...they guy I bought it from used to be an aircraft mechanic. He said this ratchet is a brand new replacement for one of his two F80s. He has 100% feedback and has sold over 300 items.

I offered him $50 but he wouldn't take it and replied with $60. I said yep, for a brand spanking new one I will do that.

It's on its way...:woot:

no..not off topic really...I was just wondering if it had impact or not. I know I have seen ratchets or whatever you call them that look like that in shops...and they don't have impact....and I wish I had one....

Wow you can't beat $60! Give him your number and tell him to call you first next time he's wanting to sell one that cheap.

That's it, it's all over. You just made the first step to becoming a quality tool junkie like the rest of us. :eek1:

So, when you get it, post up your honest opinion.

Hopefully I can keep the illness under control in the early stage...the condition known as "ratchet-itis".

although I may have "socket-itis" since I feel the urge to own a nice set of thin wall sockets
