So when is the truck going to be trail ready?
Probably not until late summer at the earliest. Need to put some drive time on the Holley to let it get dialed in and then of course finish breaking in the gears I installed 5yrs ago. Plus just general learning to trust the truck I’ve spent 4yrs building.

Let me know when you’re ready for a test drive!

Z bar modified and functional. Had to move the bracket back on the frame, cut half an inch out of the middle of it, rotate it 90*, and weld it back up. All the gears at least shift so that’s a positive.

Also got the steering shaft fully connected to the steering box so another item checked off.

Been fighting a leak at the pressure line on the power steering pump. Tried two different brand new hoses and it still leaks at the fitting. Gonna have to pull that off and get it swapped at o’reilly’s. Brand new and not a reman.

Need to wire the transmission cooler fan. Bolt on the front shock mounts and shocks. Bolt in the seats. Zip tie up some wiring. Put the grill back on. I’m starting to run out of things to delay the inevitable test drive.

Is your pressure line flare or o-ring? I saw a guy on YouTube the other day fight with a leak on a flare line and the brass seat inside his gearbox was not made correctly. Parts quality is trash now days.

Flare but also has an o-ring just behind the flare. And yes, anything made pre-2024 is just garbage covid quality crap.

Gonna hijack my own thread because I’m waiting on o’reilly’s to get in a replacement ps pump so I can attempt to drive the truck this weekend. Made a 0-60 pull today. Boost was only 5.8-6psi but she scoots. Head unit states 5.7sec. Not terrible for a 6600lb truck.

Awesome! That's got to feel good!

Can you get some medium load on the piston rings yet?

I gotta do a couple more things before I can really drive it. Front shocks need bolted in, brake booster vac line, body mount bolts tightened, wires and hoses tied up, and at least the driver seat bolted in.

Also need to look at the tune. It’s idling at 19-20afr which is a bit lean even at idle in my opinion. My exhaust isn’t the best so I’m going to wrap the joints in foil and tighten things up to make sure there are no leaks.

Would a high idle of say 2000rpm be a medium load to break them in?
No, it needs pressure, not just a some RPM. That old 2500 RPM for 20 - 30 minutes would be a way to break a flat tappet cam in, you don't have that.

You need a medium cylinder pressure up to around 4000 RPM over several acceleration runs to seat the piston rings in.
