Blazer Bash 2012 OFFICIAL trail runs - trail leader volunteers needed

Thanks, Jack.

A little word about being a trail leader. We prefer that you have run the trail before, but it's not a requirement. Primarily we need someone to take the headcount needed for the BLM & SITLA post event reports, get the group rolling down the trail, and make sure everyone makes it out okay. You'll also have a copy of the BLM permit in case a BLM official happens to see the group and asks.

It all boils to us being out there having fun exploring trails. If you get a little lost along the way, that's all part of the fun (at least IMO). I've been trail leader a number of times for my first run on a trail. Plenty here can attest to me getting the group on the wrong track and we have to turn around and go back. Some trails only have one way through, but several have different tracks crossing the trail. My groups get the benefit of seeing more of the Moab back country....

We are all adults here and we don't need/expect the trail leaders to baby sit. I would expect that if someone is doing something they shouldn't on the trail several people in the group would jump in and let that person know how to correct themselves. Same goes for all jumping in to help with a trail repair.

In other words, there's little reason to be concerned about volunteering to be trail leader. You get to take a count, carry a copy of the permit, get the group rolling down the trail, and make sure no one gets left on the trail alone. Heck you don't even need to be the guy in front.

And you get a cool Blazer Bash hat. :deal:

well you may be it, cuz nobody else is stepping up
Jack is too humble to admit he's a good trail leader. He ran Steel Bender last year. I'm sure he's up for the challenge of Wipe-Out.

Hey Jack, maybe your wife could ride with mine on Metal Masher and I could ride shotgun with you on Wipe-Out. Now wouldn't that be a hoot. :haha:

That wouldn't be fair, I don't want to be the only one getting my ass chewed by my wife for bad spotting!:doah:

Lets's do it...:smokin2:

I was the last minute trail leader for Steel Bender last year. At the BBQ there were only 3 trucks signed up. When we ran it, there were eight that attended.

I've never been on the trifecta, but my co pilot has many times. I'll ask Eric if he wants to be the trail leader for this. We plan on taking this trail. Not registered for it, but still plan on taking it.

Keep yal posted.

Eric said he's down to be the trail leader of The Trifecta.

Who is this ddm guy, I heard he was a real cool guy.

Eric said The Trifecta is an all day trail. We would like to start early in the morning. Bring extra parts, tools, fluids, food and lots of water. Make sure your full of fuel or gas before you leave town. A spare gas can would not be a bad idea. Try and be well prepared for a long run. This is the rig we will be traveling in...

Don't overdo it. A Golden Spike trip is 40 miles roundtrip from town. Figure 1 gallon per hour on the trail, and a full tank ought to be plenty. When I ran it in April, I used 8 gallons...
Weight is one of the biggest detractors of 4WD performance. You might argue that on a 6000lb truck, it won't matter anymore. Still, no need to carry extra stuff you won't need.
