Whats the story with the easy trails? I see a handful listed, is it pick your own adventure or are there that many groups running easy trails? Is it TBD?
So, what's going on is there are multiple run together. On Friday, Potash road leads you to Thelma and Louise point and onto the Schaffer switchbacks. On Saturday, you have to go over Hurrah pass to get to Chicken corners.
Linking some together just gives a little more time on the trail. In the case of Friday, just going out to Thelma and Louise point and coming back to town could have you back to town by lunchtime. Continuing on to the switchbacks get one a taste of the White Rim trail in Canyonlands. Even then when I led that trail a couple of years ago we still got up the switchbacks before lunch. I think we had 6 trucks that time so we could move without too much delay and covered ground pretty quickly.
Friday will be a loop coming back on the highway, which will make sure we are back in time for the BBQ. Saturday, Chicken Corners is an out-and-back trail. That one could be longer just because of the distance we are going off pavement. This is why it's on Saturday as it could have us coming back to town later in the afternoon. It's not a slow trail, but for those of us not on links and coilovers, rally mode could be more punishing.
@AgDieseler and I went out onto that trail last year before BB and I'll say he could maintain more speed in the rougher dirt road sections than I could. We were out there most of the day, though our long BS session for lunch ate up enough time we didn't quite make it to the overlook at the end of the Chicken Corners trail. We were back by 6:00 if I remember right.
I hope that helps explain the method to the madness.
