Blazer Bash 2023 General Discussion thread **see latest post for updates **Registration closing tonight 9/6/23***

For those on the "F Grand County, I'm going somewhere else" idea, I'm thinking the opposite track might be a better one. The town generally wants us there and it's our land to use (not abuse of course) and we're following the procedures for using it. We need to show up, do our thing like we always do and enjoy it. If anything, this will prove their obstructionism doesn't work. I also believe that if we're going there to go 'wheeling as friends anyway, it's in their best interest to make the permitting process as clear and easy as possible because we don't HAVE to do the process. This whole thing can dissolve into an unorganized non event and they have no input, no statistics, no income, etc. Not everything in the permit process is bad and there are good reasons for some of the steps but if they go too far, groups are going to quit coming but the same individuals will show up.
Well put.

As much frustration as I’ve had, it really comes down to people. Kate at the county has stepped up big time to help guide me through this new process and is really trying to get this done.

Speaking of the new process. Moving forward there are some things working in our favor. Going into for next year will be more copy/paste than this year. Along with that our groups smaller size puts us under a threshold for more requirements than bigger events. They tell me next year will be easier.

I say that last statement knowing full well that’s what I was told this year. However this is the first time for the county doing it this way too. Not just me doing it for the first time. So there’s some growing pains that have complicated matters for sure from both sides, theirs and mine. I know I’ve been pretty annoyed and vocal about it, but finally getting to the right person that seems to be genuinely interested in our event and making it happen makes a difference.

One other thing in our favor is our stellar track record over previous events. Wade had a 10year permit with the blm for a reason and it wasn’t his stunning gnome like looks (at the time), it was because our group always left the trails better than we found them. There were no reported incidents, injuries or requirement of help from local law enforcement, SAR or EMS. We have always done it right and will continue to do so.

Still as negative as my outlook has been I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. A few more boxes to check, waiting on insurance and a couple little things but we are close. Still need some CPR certs….

Next year will be easier.

@mrk5 worked up a design for it. Logistically having them there at the event is going to be tight. I'll let everybody know, it might be that they are sent later. With the process dragging out I wasn't sure if it was going to happen at all to get that side of it going.

Guys, I have to get some names and certificates to the county by the end of next week. Outside of a little comment from the health department over wag bags, the one key component I'm missing is the CPR certificates. We will not get the approval if we don't have this. I need somebody to step up here.

The health department wanted to remind all that by county ordinance, you must pack all human waste if you have to go #2 out on the trail.

I want by the cpr cert place I found on th web. Unfortunately is not the same business. Seems no longer I business

I spent 281 minutes on the red cross's online cpr first aid aed classes no cert for those, they say need to take a in person course for cert, None with 100 ( whole county of Mohave AZ) miles of my home. or 70 miles of my brothers in ca where I was last half of last week.

Copied from course history

The 2021 Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and babies. This course is taught online only (accessed via mobile, desktop or tablet) and does not meet OSHA requirements for workplace certification.

To receive a valid 2-year Red Cross digital certificate that is OSHA compliant and meets other workplace and regulatory requirements, you must enroll in an instructor-led skill session within 90 days of completing the online course which is an additional cost. We recommend verifying the location of the skills session before registering. If immediate certification is needed, we recommend enrolling in either an instructor-led Training or Blended Learning course.

I had in house training as well, but been retired for more than 2 years. My last one expired a year ago

Thanks for the link Wade.
@Blazer Bash since this is available online, I'll get to work on it this evening. I'll let you know when I'm certified.
I appreciate that. Thanks.

I found another that doesn't require an in-person component. Already took it and passed. I'll submit the certificate to the county and ask if that type of certification will cover us and if so a couple more of you can go online and get one. The cost was $12.95 plus tax.

How many do we need?
I just got one from @ashman along with @kgblazerfive and mine we have three. That should cover us. I’m going to send Ashman’s in right now and if they are good we shouldn’t need any more. If I do, I’ll post it up.

Thanks guys.
