Blazer Campers- The not a Chalet thread. FWC, Hallmark, Phoenix units.

So here's a unique case unfolding right now on Bring A Trailer. A very original '84 5.0/manual Bronco with an FWC camper. While the seller has made a case for the rarity, one guy calling it a "unicorn" on a Bronco forum does not constitute an expert on the subject. As far as I've found Bronco campers are found less than the Blazer versions by how much, I don't know.

The website is the one that had the Chalet kick to the moon for $125k. Right now there are only two bids. The high bid is at $5500 as of the time I post this. I'm interested to see if the bidding goes nuts tomorrow or not. I'm not sure if there is some sandbagging going on, or it's just not bringing the interest so far.

Here's the link to the auction:

All things considered it appears like the camper is in pretty good shape. I noticed it does not have a screen door, I have been meaning to ask you how many you have found that do have one. Mine is the only one I have seen with one and the way they are configured you actually have to change the complete door frame to add one from what I can tell

The Bronco does have some signs of water damage on the lift panels, but no swelling to the particleboard sections.

That's a good question on the screen door. I'm not sure. I'll have to go back through my pics to see how many if any have them. I'm curious now.

The Bronco auction got bid up to $12,366 but didn't meet the reserve. I'm sure the seller was trying to cash in big.

Do the4x4 camper have a load limit for packing or towing, I know that most instill a 14 ff but you look all the pix and they dont, I think it was the downfall of the chalet,it was on mine.i just read it again,so much information, thanks

So FWC do not provide a load limit that I've found. Most old literature or vintage magazine articles listed the FWC camper only a couple hundred pounds heavier than the fiberglass top that was removed.
How much you cram it full of gear is on you. Mine is heavy I know. Prior to the big block it was right at 6500 with me in it. So the smart thing to do is stuff a 14b under it and beef up the rear springs. Mine sagged under a full load.

This is kinda cool.

I'm sure the Chalets had beefed up rear springs from the factory that increased the GVW to 6500. Since the rest of them were not intended for a camper it stands to reason they stuck with the 6200 GVW.

My Blazer did have a rear seat with seat belts that hung from the factory top. I think the FWC factory rear bench is low enough to allow a kid to ride, but I've yet to see one with seat belts back there. Since the bench was just built out of particle board with basic "L" brackets for the corners at the floor I don't think it would be substantial enough to attach seat belts too.

So what is the count here at ck5,,3--4wd,,1-haulmark 1-homemade and larry's Phoenix and
3--chalets

Was Mike selling the camper or the whole thing that is 1 bad blazer, did he get it done

I think he was selling the whole thing. It was 95% done. He was still waiting on the rear door to complete it and then one could build out the inside to their liking.

Larry shot this link over to me from Craigslist. International Travelall for sale but you need to take a Scout II FWC camper along with it and the rest of the crap the guy is trying to unload.

A repeat seller on fb marketplace. This one was up on craigslist earlier this year showing with an original tan/white two tone and covered in black plasti-dip spray. Price has gone up. $17,500 now. It does look like it's ready to use.

I'll post pics I've save of it when I get home.

So I'm not sure about why the guy coated the truck and camper with plasti-dip, but I think it looked better without it.

Here it is without the stuff on it:

Pardon my ignorance but how are the pedestal mounds for the tables that are on the floor secured to the bed of the k5?
