Blazer Campers- The not a Chalet thread. FWC, Hallmark, Phoenix units.

That was my initial thought, just build it up to cover the shock tower. This would let me be able to get in the door as stock and stand up like you're saying. I'm thinking it would workout great because it's just to stay dry and warm. I would be able to build around the towers and still have a decent storage area with the cab over bed.

Is the heater assembly also in the rear of the camper?

* Shock towers only go back as far as the wheel wheels and about 6-8" higher.

I'm thinking this is better than buying a suburban and starting all over. I don't think my wallet can handle it. I also can't bring myself to run anything besides the Gen 5 or similar now that I have one.

You have the beginnings of a good plan. On the passenger side you'll be wide open and could build around the shock tower. This pic is early in the camper development as there is still a vertical board over the wheel tub (that got deleted for version 2). If the tower is below the bedrail you'd be in good shape to build a box to cover it. Both boxes I've had in mine are even with the top of the bedrail so that the overhang part of the camper adds a little bit of width to the sleeping surface and allows the box to be a little narrower to have a wider isle to stand in.

On the driver side, again as long as the shock tower is below the bedrail, you are pretty well set. The cabinetry hangs over the wheel tub by 3-4". Even if the tower is further in you could work around it. You can see the location in this pic. The furnace in the back corner on the left. It hangs below the bedrail but is still above the floor by a few inches.

The beauty here is the fact that the camper doesn't attach to the floor of the truck. Keeping within the limits of the bedrail for overall height on the shock towers you could totally build around them and still have 98% of the storage that Ron or I have in ours. Full standing height to be able to get dressed easy, stretch out, whatever. The lower bench in mine with my side flap that folds out gives me just enough room to sleep in length and width. It's right at 6ft long by the way. There's the cab over area to sleep in, but I've let my son stay up there. Without making the canvas section taller I can't sit up in bed as I can down below.
 
From the pics I have on hand, it looks like the towers extend 3-4 inches above bed rails, not sure I'll check tomorrow. It's snowy and cold lol. Even if I build a taller cabinet for the couch area would be fine. I could even do without if needed. Even in the extreme a raised deck everywhere except behind the wheel wells would work for my needs, but just a cap over the shocks would be fine.
 
I'm sure they will fit under a box similar to above now that I'm staring at it. All I know is you camper guys are contagious hahha

The fact the heater is back there is a huge plus for my thoughts. Even if the cabinets and couch are deleted is doable
 
The more I look back at the camper pics in your's and Ron's threads, I think my shock hoops are set far enough away from the wheel wells I might only have to clearance the cabinets. The couch side would benefit building a new setup anyways. Now I just need the Harley to sell to make this happen, or my first choice to grab Ron's 91.

It’s a disease for sure.

The cabinet could be notched to clear on the driver side. The passenger side could go a couple of ways like creating seats on either side of the tower or on one side. You always have the cab over to sleep in.

It’s a totally workable problem for sure.

One word of caution which would go to any prospective Blazer Camper buyer. Do what you can to go get it yourself. I mentioned it early in this thread but Ron found one that met it’s demise in the same manner. There was a Ramcharger with a FWC camper on it that was just found and sold on Craigslist here in Denver last month. Buyer paid a hotshot transporter to bring it to California. The truck was strapped down to a long trailer where the truck was sitting with the front wheels higher (trailer had a steep angle on it) and the camper got blown off the truck in transit. Just like the other one.

Camper was obliterated and all that was left was the bench and the boards attached to the bed rails.

That cab over tilted up even slightly is like a sail catching the wind. Factor in the sides are only stapled to the boards that get bolted to the bedrail and it’s easy to see how it can rip off.

This unit was for sale on Craigslist a couple years back out of Longmont Co. Current owner drove it to Texas (El Paso I think) after buying it. So it’s a known runner but he’s now in NM. Solid starting point.
 
That's an amazing find. That's the shorter of the two offerings from Hallmark too.
 
I’ve seen it for sale before. First time it was a factory tan color, I think maybe with a white two tone inside the trim.

Then some ass covered it in spray plasti-dip which looks like it’s holding up great. :whistle:

I think it’s still a reach at 10k but it’s getting closer to reality for that one.
 
Not a blazer but I thought this was cool because I have never seen one on a Ramcharger/Trailduster. Traildusters are rare enough on their own. One of the guys on Ramchargercentral just scored this....Been sitting here for 20 years....
