Blazer's 78 C10 Big 10

So did some work on this today.
Starter does not like being where is is so put some shims in it. Works a little better.

Got a tilt wheel from a 73, yeah, so like tons of stuff is different. Starter switch is the same but backwards, wires will move to make it work. Turn signal wire connection is different too. So going to have to repin the whole thing

Didn’t know the wiring was that different from 73 to 78

73 and 74 seem to be different on a number of things.

Update
Steering column is in
Wiring fixed ended up just doing some modification to the turn signal wiring harness clips to get them to connect together.
Pulled the starter out again, well took all but one shim out. It would start fine a few times then decide to miss the flex plate. No shims sounded to tight, three was missing, so went to one, works fine for now.
Truck is really weird to get it to start. You have to turn the key to start and it runs. No pumping the gas, nothing, first time ever for me with an old Chevy.

Been thinking about making it a short bed. Have to pull the bed to do the flip and notch. So maybe .....

Little update on this thing
Starter shim thing did not work for long. Have to pull out the trans and replace the flexplate. Have to see if I still have my trans jack haven't seen it in awhile haven't started really looking for it yet either. its been hot and I am a wuss and don't really feel like pulling it yet.

So two year ish update. Flex plate fix did not work, still did not want to start well. So replaced the starter, yea still not a real fix. So replaced my external solenoid and wala it starts great now.
Although I have been looking to replace it, not that I even drive it, but have been looking for a 2wd Blazer. Have a neighbor that has one, it is one of those yeah I am going to fix it one day. That day has been 17 years so far. So in the mean time, I think this spring I start driving it a bit fixing some things and then lowering it and C notch and shorten the frame to Blazer length, not much shorter then a short bed. Then really look for a body swap or do some serious body mods the cab.

So two month or so update. I go out, pump the gas twice, turn the key starts right up, runs great, run it for a bit then shut it off.

Contemplating driving daily for a bit. At least until it gets warm out here because it has no A/C and I am a wuss.

cool that it starts right up, but it needs some exercise to burn off that condensation and keep everything lubed up!
not good to let them sit!

Update, truck is for sale. Buying then building a 2wd Blazer don't want to cut this one up to use for parts, but I will ....

Another update, truck will not start. Got it drug over to the shop so now I get to figure out why. Wont even start with starting fluid so I pulled a plug and it doesn't seem to have spark. Going to get my tester out and check for real, but it seems like that may be the reason.

I did get a set of rust and dent free front fenders so they are probably going on. Since I got no movement on selling it yet, might as well get it running and then get it looking a bit better.

So a first for me. Connected my spark tester. Has spark, for about four revolutions then no more spark. So very interesting.

So I ended up just replacing the whole distributer because I have like five of them, because I did not know if it was the coil or the module. Started up and runs great after we reattached the vacuum line that we had off when we timed it.

I had that before with bad coils that fail after a few minutes when they warm up

And something else that I figured out last night. That the brake lights aren't working and only the passenger side hazard light is working.

So I have some investigation to do.
