"Bolt-on" Single cab conversion

I just bought the molds and made a swimming pool with them, sorry guys

I'm 99.99% sure it's for the 76-91 trucks. He seemed to know exactly what I was talking about.

BTW, what year did the rear floor change? IIRC, the part where it drops down changed location at some point, correct? Did the change correspond with the 1976 change to half-cabs?
I think the full cargo floor went up to 77 or 78. I not sure, but I know there are a couple years with the half cab and a full cargo floor.

The changeover was mid 77. First half of 77 was the old style floor, and after that they went to the drop center with the ledge.

I wonder how that would affect the way the bulkhead seals to the floor.

Also...does this mean rear passengers were practically sitting on the floor with their knees up in the air? :haha:

Yes. Ever sit in the 3rd row of a Suburban? That's pretty similar.

Minnesota is central time. If I had more time this week/weekend (depending on their location) I could stop by and see what I could do.

What city are they located in Jon?

Dunnell is an hour and a half from the city I live in 9 months out of the year. If ya need someone to check it out in person, I can do it in a month or so.

I see you figured it out before I got to it...

I just spoke with Earl. As I suspected, he got my email address wrong.

He said the guy that actually makes them is the same guy that made every one they (Glasstite, Creative Products, Specialty Design) ever sold. He no longer works for them directly, so they sub out some work to him.

He said $525 for the fiberglass panel, and the drawings would be thrown in for free.

I asked if there would be a discount for a run of several pieces. He said, "absolutely", and that he'll work up the numbers for a run of 5, 10, etc, and email them to me tonight. He said the higher cost was due to the fact that this is no longer a regular-production item, and the initial $525 figure was for a "one-off" piece.

I explained to him that CK5 has thousands of members, some as far away as Europe and Asia, and that the site was based around Blazers. I said there was always the possibility of more orders through the site, and that seemed to interest him.

I figure when the time comes to get the ball rolling on this, we could try to get as many interested parties involved as possible to lower the price.

Still... I would rather pay $525 for the glass and diagrams, and supply my own window than pay for a soft top.

:D

You can't easily pull the rear window out of a pickup and pop it back in... or add a camper/cargo shell/bed cover that ties in with the cab. :D

You can't easily build a cage that will work with both tops and still protect rear seat occupants. :p:

I started this post hours ago...

That first sentence has been modified twice.

It was originally, "I started this post over an hour ago... ", then became "I started this post at least two hours ago... "

Now...just "hours". CK5 is running so fooking slow. WTF!?!?

ANYWAY... part of the reason why is it's taken so long is because I'm getting the following pics from Wicked87_k5's gallery here on CK5, and uploading them to my Flickr account so they don't ever get deleted. Wicked87_k5 has or had the kit on his truck...he hasn't been to CK5 since 5.20.2007.

These are some really good shots of the kit, and show it from several different angles. Enjoy...

From Earl...

Jon,

We have the mold to make the fiberglass part, the drawings to build the fabricated metal parts and the mounting instructions.

Per part price on ordering 5 would be $490.00 a $35.00 dicount from the single price, and $470.00 a $55.00 discount on 10.

The part is UPS shippable. We would calculate the shipping costs upon taking an order.

Sent this yesterday but missed a letter in the address. If you have any questions you can e mail me at either [email protected] or [email protected].
My cell phone # is 612-246-7004.

Edit:

For now, I have 9 people that want one (as far as I could tell)

jonrpick
DK5
muddybuddy
obijuan
metapoint
k5 krawler 50
WikedLizard
h0wl0ngcanitbe
mikey_d05

Anyone want to get in on this, or back out? I'm not placing an order tomorrow or anything, and we'll have to figure out how to do this. Separate orders, but I think we could get the group discount if we all committed to buying at the same time.

i'm totally in on this. Let me know how/when we are going to do the payment options. Thanks for getting done.

Well... Props to DK5 for bringing it back to the forefront of my thoughts.

What's funny is, I'd stopped short of actually emailing or calling Glasstite in the past because I didn't think it would lead to anything productive. :doah:

It would be great if our efforts lead to this becoming a somewhat regular item again, even if the market is limited. This is not the only limited market that enjoys strong aftermarket support.

BTW, that thread that was mentioned a few posts back... any idea which year truck that was installed in? As far as I could tell, the guy didn't use the regular steel bulkhead, but created his own and welded it in. I have no problem welding mine in, because I can't imagine ever taking it out. But I could see where some would want to remove theirs, especially if they sell the truck and want to put it in a different one.
