"Bolt-on" Single cab conversion

I need some measurements before i can say for sure i have a roll cage issue, judging from the pics i should be able to make it work. i have a slight gap between my cab and roll cage. I guess i could move my roll cage back up on too the upper ledge if i had too but i am not familiar with how too go about doin that? any ideas? i really ant this conversion.

got any pics? how much room is there currently between the cage and the cab? maybe you could cut the cage partially and weld new plates to accomodate moving it back to the upper ledge. i don't know what your setup is though so its hard 2 say. pics would help

thanks to you jon for making this happen, it was just an idea that came to me one day when I really could have used a truck... hopefully this works out because its a heck of a lot cheaper than buying another truck.. plus it looks really cool

I'm just thrilled that it's come to this... I always knew SOMEBODY had the molds to these things and knew how to manufacture them. I honestly can't believe I finally tracked them down! :D

It's going to be a couple of months before I can make the purchase. If anyone is ready to proceed with a group purchase, I can try to arrange the deal so that everyone gets the best price possible.

Ill take some pictures of my set up inside my truck it looks like it might just clear im not sure though its gonna be close.

Put me on the list also. I'll see if I can scrape up the money.

OK so what back window does this use?
and it is girlfiend approved:waytogo:
hell yeah!

I know it uses a "standard" pickup sliding window. Which "standard" they refer to is beyond me. I do recall seeing generic pickup rear windows in JC Whitney catalogs years ago, in different sizes...

Hold...

"Thank you for continuing to hold..."

Fits '67-'87 C/Ks. Although, if you compare pics of a stock C/K truck, the rear window looks to be too big to fit the half-cab piece. So maybe it uses an S10-sized window...or any "mini truck" window.

That JC Whitney window is also available for S10's, so if that's the right size, there's the window.

if they know what size rear window will fit i want one.will be a few months before i can get it.
wonder how bad the shipping would be to alaska.

I'm sure they do... I couldn't imagine there being a proprietary size for that application.

It really does look like a mini-truck window is the right size...just which one, I'm not sure...

another thing I am wondering is if I use it as a truck, should I get a truck tailgate too? Will it hurt the current blazer tailgate if it gets wet?

I noticed that when I put the window down it doesn't go in the gate all the way. there is about a half inch of glass still exposed. Is this normal? Does your guys' trucks do that as well? If i was to get some lumber or something and set it on the tailgate I'm worried that it might break the glass if I hit a bump.

I noticed the truck gate install thread from DPI. that thing looks really good,, maybe with some bedliner on the inside it would work perfect for this setup.

Mine does this as well...I think they all do.

My personal approach will be to install a truck gate. If I have a need for the full top, then I'll have a piece of plexi bent and cut to match the old window contour. That would be jammed up into the space occupied by the window, and come down to meet the truck tailgate, with weatherstripping on the underside of the window.

Basically, you'd open the truck gate, and just pull the window straight down by hand when needed.

The only remaining issue is rigging a way to lock the truck tailgate when you have full hardtop on. Shouldn't be a big deal.

I plan to bedliner up to, but not over the rails.

might not form a good seal with the top? or just don't like the look of it? i was thinking of doing it like the new trucks over the rails.

any news from the company? whats the latest? i'll try to keep bumping this thread to generate more interest from fellow ck5er's. it'll be great if we can get this thing mass produced.

Mainly for in case I need to reseal the full top. I just don't know how well it would seal up against that, plus the added thickness could make installation tricky.

Not to mention that most bedliner are make to NOT be slippery, meaning sliding it on could be a real chore if you didn't drop it in place with a lift.

I haven't spoken with Earl this week, but no real need to. We know what we need to know at this point and it's up to us to organize this thing and make it happen.

I'm still in on this, so you can include my name, and again i appreciate you doing all the homework, that is just awesome

At some point you're gonna just wish you'd bought a shortbed. :doah:

What do I know, I have both a K5 *and* a pickup ... a truck for every purpose, if not a purpose for every truck. :haha: (Hey, the wife and I are down from seven cars/trucks to four! :D )

*On topic* ... There are aftermarket kits to lock truck tailgates; the guys with the locking tonneau covers use 'em. Pretty sure JCW has 'em; LMC might too.
