broke my steering sector end cap

I did a hydrualic assist steering and took it out for the first time wheelin. I put the fittings in the alum. endcap and plate on top. I had a piece welded on to the endcap and drilled and tapped for 1/4 npt. everything was working great(best steering I've ever had) when all of a sudden it was gone. It broke or cracked right along the edge of the weld then headed for the edges of the cap. probably 2 or so inches long. I am wondering if the weld could have weakened the endcap or do I have to much pressure? Anybody have any ideas to try , check, what to look for?? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Built a new endcap tonight out of 6061 billet. So if it was the weld- problem solved- if it is to much pressure probably moved the problem somewhere else /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

You could have possibly put your fitting too far into the cap. The moving parts in there could have put too much pressure on it/touched it and caused it to break. There is a company called EMSoffroad.com in pennsylvania. They make a billet cap with the fitting for $60. Good quality stuff too
