since I've been gone the last few days with no DSL I've gotten a few things done /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Here's the beginnings of the cargo boxes and tailgate posts

I drilled some holes and welded in some sleeves to those tubes for the tailgate bolts

and another one open

the same sleeves are welded into the 2" square tube, the bolts are long enough that with one washer the nut will bottom out on the non-threaded area and allow the tailgate to hinge on the bolt

Added some more diamond plate, in the near future I'm going to cut up and weld in some more plate in the angled side areas

Getting to that point I tried to figureout exactally what I was going to do to replace the rusted out tail light areas since I have some new LED trailer lights.
So I figured I'd cut the azz-end down a little

I used a big c-clamp and taped my paint marker to it to help find my trim lines. It should give me about 1/4" extra that I can trim down if needed but it gives me a baseline to work from.

Once I got evrything cut I used the grinder and cleaned it up a bit and welded in the inners and outers together.

Wow dude, that is really coming along. I like the idea of the cargo boxes /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Here's a drawing of the cargo area and my cage idea

The blue part is mainly for looks and to hold the softtop up /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif
I'll even mounts some 4" PVC tubes up there to put spare parts in. The side areas should have enough room to put a gallon of antifreeze, gallon of water, several bottles of oils and other fluids. The passengers side will have enough room for all the tow straps and recovery stuff. I'll put all my spare axle shafts in the pvc tubes and I'll have two removable boxes that will padlock to the floor. The center console I'm thinking I'm going insulate it and make it a cooler /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
