buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

the console and floors have been getting attention, the console will hold the art car shifter, twin sticks and the high and low range atlas shifters. The computer ecm is behind the console/dash. I just drilled four 3/8 holes in the fins and made some tabs. The sides on the console are now going to hold some storage with a hinged door that opens. The storage area is about 3 cubic feet and I plan to make water tight to hold some spare clothes, camera, keys etc. One for me and one for the passenger.

drivers side floor and panel under the console is welded in, the passenger floor however is removable and allows easy access to the atlas shifters, linkages and bolts.

still chuggin along!

I like where you're going but wouldn't it be a lot more comfortable to shift if it wasn't at such a steep angle? When it's all the way down in first it looks like you'll have to grab the top of the shifter instead of push it up if it was flat.
Maybe it's no big deal but since you're building it all from scratch might as well make it comfy :)

Atlas4 = 3 shifters.....

These pics leave me feeling cheated. :wink1:

Hard to say why but I love it where it is, feels just about perfect. I still have to final mount it but i have options left for the angle since you can take the shifter out of the plastic case and flush mount it. Im going to try it where its at and if I find it a bother I just make a small angled base that the shifter recesses into..so not real changes needed to the dash/console itself.

Feels like an arcade game:D

I had my art carr pretty much flat and I liked it but never tried more vertical. All the race trucks that come race at our track have their art carrs like yours too.

Shifter 1 = Front Diff
Shifter 2 = Rear Diff
Shifter 3 = Planetary Box (not pictured)

Where's it going...? You know the one with the shiny machined shift knob that says "4-speed" on it??? :deal:

ahh

she is still a bit floppy but here is the general position . Or I may squeeze it between the seats.

still pluging away

Ive just about racked my brain as to what to do with my relays and the fuse panel for the stand alone harness. I went to Home depot and ace to look at hinges and forgot my wallet:tongue1:

So went home and ate and said **** it, dug in my junk drawer/bolt box and came up with this. I wanted it to be easy to get to and have the ability to check it quickly and not have to pull the whole dash off or crawl in some funky gymnast position to access it.

It basicly hinges down on my red neck removable hinge thing, welded the two nuts to the chassis. Then at the closest side where it closes there is a tab welded to the chassis and then a 3/8 bolt welded in-place upside down.
I just close it and tighten the nut, I may look into a locking wing nut if I can find one and safety wire it or something so I dont loose it. Im also going to install 2 more relays that are spares, so if one blows I just move the relay harness to the good one as well as put those lighted fuses inplace of these so I can easily tell if one is out.

for the have assed attempt im happy.

If is is an iron 4.8, you should be able to bore and stroke it to 5.7 or so. Still not a 6.0 though...

not worth the hassle considering I can get more bang for my buck with a stock 6.0. There are some people who have done some amazing things with 4.8's but I dont desire to spend the money just to be one of them!

Agreed. The bigger bore of the 6.0 allows the use of the 6.2 heads, and then you can still bore stroke it over 400 cid. :waytogo:

But if you have to start with a 4.8...

I may go balls out and start firing 200 shots into the 4.8 once the 6.0 build is done.:saweet:
Over on Performancetrucks.net there are some guys running 200 shots on their stock 4.8's in there 03 or 04 chev trucks. No changes to the computer and running a dry nitrous kit. Here is a link to a cheap kit with 50-150hp settings.http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/catalog/products.asp?group=15&model=42&dept=11 Can upgrade to 200. I think adjusting the timing is all that would be needed to be able to make the motor live longer.
Thats the kit I plan on running with my 6.0

so more plugging away, I wanted to store my drive lines under a shelf I was making and some ammo cans for tools and what not. I cut the aluminum out and the shelf came out alright. I plan to put a small cooler, nitrogen tank and some room left for a bag or 2 on the shelf. Still undecided if I want to build sides for it as it will make getting to the regulator a serious pain.

The drivelines I was going to stuff in some pvc pipe with screw on end caps. Well home depot is not open at 3 am and my motivation was keeping me up.. so ammo cans and cut off wheels it is!

as for the battery im not sure if this will be its final location, I also could squeeze it next to the fuel cell standing up on end, or on the shelf. I really want to place it behind the drivers seat and right next to the fuel cell because it fits just right but im concerned with having the battery and fuel reg, filter and pump and 10 fittings all next to one another:crazy:

couple more pics of it all together, and i swear my new puppy has claimed my buggy as his. He likes sitting int he seat and will bark or yelp to be put up there. Then whine when he has to pee and then promptly come right back and beg to be put in it. Kind of amusing:D

I need to come up with an idea to keep the drive shafts in place in the ammo can, any idea's? maybe some rubber caps that cup over each end and get sandwiched by the lid? But I have no idea of where to get such caps. On idea is to make a box the same size as the ammo can and take it down to a shipping place the does the packing foam. Have them pack it per say in there foam and plastic deal then shave it to fit and slide in my ammo can set up??
