Building Blazer still

A radiator shop here in Laramie built the radiator.
I'm hoping everything is good with the motor and we may up the compression a little to get better mpg, still researching my options. May be a different cam but the one that's in it is not that radical??? Not sure yet, we'll get it apart and double check things then make a decision. Just looking thru the tranny also since it's out to freshen up, I figure why not. I don't have any issues with motor or tranny and I want to keep it that way so just looking things over for now.
I'll post as things get done.
I think UA would kick ass!!!!!

Mike have you considered oil testing ?
Take samples at intervals to check for metals from wear and they can tell you what is normal or not

Motor & Tranny freshen up

OMG nick of time!!! Good thinking on tearing down because we just saved the motor!!
We aren't sure what caused this but it is being fixed.

Good catch! Don`t think that engine would be very cheap to replace.

Yes it was expensive to build, I'm happy about it but I'm not happy about this happing!
I was told they think this happened because of three possible reasons,
1. Put together poorly with to tight of clearances
2. Put together Dirty
3. Dirty Oil

I would bet there is less than 4,000 miles on this motor and I changed the oil probably 12 times and have really taken care of it.
I heard some bad things about the motor builder and that is why I decided to tear it down and look!

I was thinking that sometime with the angles we run that I lost oil pressure and starved the bearings but I never saw oil pressure loss on the gauge. The guy doing the motor now said that is not what happen and he is the professional so Ill go with what he says. The Cam Bearings and everything else looks good.
I am installing an Oil Accumulator in it like I have in my Buggy just for piece of mind!

I was readying your reply and about to ask about an accumulator. I have an electric solenoid on my wired into the fuel pump circuit so when I turn on the ignition and the pump primes it also pre-oils the engine before I even hit the starter. It is nice like that too so if you do turn ign on to do something else it only opens for 2 seconds and doesn't dump all the oil into the engine if you aren't ready to fire yet.

So a kit like this wired to the fuel pump?

I didn't use the extra pressure sensor stuff, just that green solenoid with the wire to to my fuel pump lead from the relay.

Ive done the same on a couple engines
Just had the feeling that it was time to. CHeck bearings
Good call Mike

Motor & Tranny freshen up

The motor should be freshened up and put back in next week! Freshen Tranny up already so it will be good! I will get the new radiator installed at that time also.
Nothing like going down to the wire again for BB!

Still need to Fab up and install extra fuel cells so I don't have to carry gas cans.
Install the Premier Power Welder again.
Get spare parts and tools mounted again.
Get my CB tuned in with a SWR meter.
Would like to make some kind of snorkel system using my hood scoop but that can get done this winter.
I got the Jana 76 Kit installed on the D60 and the 14 bolt shave kit done but I have not got any miles on them yet, need to get gears broke in!
Thumper should be ready to go!:woot:Again!

One fender fuel tank almost done, it will get Hydro dipped when done like the interior. The engine overhaul kit and oil accumulator should be here tomorrow! The Shielded cables for video cameras are here so progress is being made!
