Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

I think I figured out my hard starting problem too. I was bored N thinking, happend to remember my dad fixing one of our old vehicles. It would turn over fine but wouldnt fire till you let off the key. Ended up being that the switch under the dash on the collum wasnt adjusted right. He loosend the screws on it and slid it down the collum a little bit and it fired right up every time.

So ,, I went out and tried to turn the key in my burb just far enough to turn it over and it fired right off. :D I'm going to look into it in the morning, I may end up replacing the switch if it is the problem cause I'm sure its going bad if thats my issue.

Thinking back, my monza did this too.

The switch is not the problem, the adjustment on it is the problem.
You noticed they have an ajustment, so what you need to do is center it on the middle of your shifter play because what happens is when you park your shifter, it still has play and if it's at the edge of it's range and the switch is at the other edge it could be off.
Had that happen to me in my van and once I adjusted it it worked fine for years.

Hey adam heres your pics of the drain plug and where to put it. And it was short lived because I pulled it out to drain a half quart or so out. When I put it back in I couldnt thread it in real far by hand (tried a few times while fliud came out) so I thought it was a bur and tightened it up with the socket. went fine till near the end when it got tuff and I realized it was cross threaded:doah: It seals for now but when it warms up it may drip:confused: I'm gonna change the fluid and filter again in a few weeks so I'm just gonna redo it or get a new deeper pan:dunno: I'm batting a thousand on bone head moves lately

Look at the bright side, it will be easier to drain the fluid before you drop the pan so you don't make a mess while you fix it! :waytogo:

If I can get it out:rolleyes: Once I knew it was cross threaded It was far too late to save it, So..... I cranked it down GOOD:whistle: to prevent leaks you know:D

Well if the weld broke off, now is the time to do it right, you can get a regular tall nut, and grind one big cut in the middle to create a hole on 2 sides, and weld the two sides of the nut to the bottom of the pan, that is how I did the first one, before I found a castle nut that fits the bolt I have.

The welds not breakin:whistle: Its a full double pass all the way around. I'm gonna take it out with the impact. may go this route

Also I rechecked it to see how much I drained out and refill to correct. It seems to have went UP, WTF:dunno: I gotta check again

IT LEAKS:doah: I'm gonna do the second new filter/fluid change a little sooner than expected and just weld the plug closed for now. I want to get a deep aluminum pan with fins. So I'll get it by for now that way, and save for the pan I want.

Ahh that sucks man, Just weld it up and let the fluids you already spent money on work for a while, no sense in wasting all that time and money. I would just run it a while.

All I gotta do is buy a new filter /gasket kit ($10) I got 4 gallons of tranny fluid when I bought everything cause I was gonna flush it,,, I got lazy:rolleyes:. I have to pull it to weld it anyway:doah: luckily its a slow leak so If I check it everyday I should be fine. only bad part is it drips onto the Y pipe and stinks.

Oh well watch for fire...:eek1:

Why not just dry it off, get a fire extinguisher and lay a tack on the plug to the pan, then you dont gotta take it off lol. But do what you will lol, just thinkin of all that nice new fluid lol.

I dont want to burn the fluid that is in the pan still. OR set it on fire:eek1:. Anyway, tranny fluids cheap:waytogo:

I did think of the tranny fluid on the pipe though. This things been on fire once I dont want to shoot for twice:rolleyes: I think I'm going to leave it parked till thursday or friday and do it all again. Its a truck, I wouldnt have it if I didnt get to wrench on it:D

Ok you win lol. I just changed mine and the filter today, no leaks:thumb: Not to rub it in or anything...

I figure while I'm under there I'll do the transfer case fluid too. If I get time I'll do the front diff also. I'm going to use a gasket this time though. I just did RTV on the rear and it leaks too. That one is going to hurt to redo, $35 in lucas gear lube:doah:. If I had been thinkin I would have done the front while I had the tierod out. I may just pull one side and swing it out of the way.

Ouch man that does suck, I cant beleive how espensive some of that stuff is. I was gonna say what the heck and go Royal purple everything but a freekin quart of dif lube was $18 a qt!!:eek1: Thats more than twice as much as a quart of engine oil is. I bought the valvoline synthetic 80/90 for $6 something a qt.

I don't see the logic here, you just changed the fluid and a filter a couple of days ago, you drain it fix the pan and reuse the same fluid, no need to put new fluids unless you are using it as a flush for the Torque converter then yeah it's worth it, and as for the tcase or diff, if it still looks good, you can reuse it too.

When I bought the tranny fluid I got enough to do it twice for the flushing converter and cooler reason. As for the rear diff I'm going to try to save and reuse it if possible, but I'd feel better if its new going back in:dunno: . The Tcase has original fluid in it as far as I know so I'm doing it just because. Then all fluids will be new. I plan on doig some traveling with this thing so I'm doing preventative maint. wherever possible

All fluids are changed finally (sorta), I may have drowned the rear diff already:doah:. Ran slowly through about a 2-2.5' water puddle leaving work this morning. When I pulled my plug to double check the level a little bit ago It ran out fast. Wasnt milky but seemed too full. Front was cream as I knew it would be. I have to figure out how to change the power steering fluid now just for prevention and piece of mind. I'll be taking the first highway trip tomorrow (90mi one way) I'll fill it up so I can get some MPG numbers and post how it does.

did you check it right after driving it? If so the fluid may still have been warm and therefore expanded.

Which direction are you going? I have your wheel spacers if you want them and my Blaser's home with new axles, disc brakes, wheels, tires and xj shaft. I'm a happy man. Still no suburban. With in two weeks for sure, If I have time to go get it.
