Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

It's not the muffler's, .... ever stood next to a dodge diesel and tried to talk to the driver..... have to raise your voice next to a stock one even.

I know they're often loud, but they aren't all that way. Newer ones can be really quiet, older ones can be better than they normally are. Not sure if that's quiet enough for Wifey, but I'm not sure where else to point you.

I'll stick with an old school small block :D it'll do what I need it to do. :waytogo: everyone's swapping different stuff in... I'm gonna be a hold out lol.

Guy complains about some slight lifter tap on an LS but wants a 4bt swap  :doah:
Musta missed the part where I said I'd ha e to have 500 lbs of sound deadening material under the hood to have one....... :haha:

I love the idea of a lifted burb getting high 20's for mpg.. but I'd have to go to such great lengths to kill the sound that it wouldn't be worth it..... which is why I'll never have one :thumb:

And the sound of a diesels rattle is a LOT different than the sound of a valve train seemingly coming apart lol. It annoys me with the ls because I constantly think my engines gonna grenade it's self. With a diesel it's expected sound so I never think about it

A commuter suburban, eh? I think the NVH + the emissions headaches is why such a combination hasn't been sold since the 6.2 days. And the 6.2 trucks didn't sell very well. I guess you are in the minority, Rick. Even if you did have your sound deadening.

I do miss my 2wd 87 with the 6.2. I got a regular 24mpg on interstate, with a best ever of nearly 28 running over by Chicago and back on 55 mph roads.

You can always go back. I know where to find a spare 6.5 engine.

Mostly you need to just pick something and do it.

I didn't.. :D I just mentioned that I COULD have an ls setup for the same money, and that I'd decide after the denali gone... abd the conversation skewed from there lol. People wanted to know about my problems with the ls platform, and then diesels came up.... but really it was never a decision since the vortec is already bought, like I mentioned :thumb:

I may do a different engine some day,,, who knows..? According to Chrissie this may end up being Kaz's truck because she says I CAN'T sell it... we'll see lol...
So far it is the vehicle that I've had the longest by far. but I DO want another CCSB square body someday. So that might change:thinking:

The 6.5 was available in the Suburban till the end of the 90's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only 6.5 Suburbans that I have seen were 3/4-ton models set up for towing. Not what I would consider a commuter rig. But there were a bunch of earlier 6.2 1/2-ton rigs set up for cruising.

Diesel today is nearly synonymous with either "tow rig" or "rig for people who like to compensate."

Some where it all went to "I GOT 1500 FTLBS AND 1200 HP BROHEIM!!!!!'.
Instead of 'My truck will tow my 26' bumper mount camper on the weekend, and get 24mpg when it isn't..'
Wish they'd revamp the 6.2 and put it back in service with the same goals they were meant for

Ram has done a decent job with their new little diesel engine. Lots more power than the old coal burners, QUIET (for yer Wifey), and EPA ratings near 30MPG in a half-ton. Even Ford is doing quite well with their Ecoboost engines. We just wish GM would catch on to the trend.
