Gas really shouldnt leak out of there unless the injectors are hanging open and filling the "venturi" The throttle shafts are known to be a source of vacuum leak though! When i rebuilt mine i just stacked o rings on the outside, over the throttle shaft, in such a way that the or ing held tight to the shaft, and tight against the outside of the throttle body. THat sealed up the vacuum leak i had right there quite perfectly. Also, Later model TBI's like 95ish had sealed bearings for the throttle shaft instead of bushings if memory serves me right.

If I have bushings their shot. I noticed when looking for seals that I had at least noticeable, side to side movement. You can see the gap. but theres no bushings in the kit??.. I got a Tbi Total rebuild kit.

Kit doesn't include any sort of bushings

Wonder if this is where my large cold vac leak i have is coming from....

Can I use a 95/96 base? That would be easy to find for cheap if I can

I'm thinking that gas wouldn't come out of there if I wasn't making pools of it on top of the venture plate's... That should be cured with this rebuild I hope. As for the vacuum leak side of things, mine would totally fail that smoke test you did on yours.

also, during the rebuild / cleanup process, I found this tiny orifice to be all gunked up... nowhere said to clean it or how so I pulled a strand from a wire brush n shoved down there.... hope that's good enough

well there does appear to be some sort of bushing/seal.... so I decided to take the rest of it apart and see what I could do to replace em, and broke a screw immediately I'll take it to work and drill n' tap a new screw hole next to the old one. I kinda don't know if I wanna end up doing all 4 though

there are felt like Oring type seals under them black caps.... there are some similar in the kit Guess they DO come with replacements lol... I have it all apart now and will be putting it all back together tonight... at least on the bench... probably back in the truck tomorrow since it'll be almost 30* warmer, and I'll get my plugs done at the same time...... hopefully she runs smooth after that...... where's the crossed fingers smiley

the seals in the kit LOOK like the ones I pulled out of the black caps.... but clearly are not for that Now I don't know what to do.... if I use the O rings I found then i'd have a rubber stopping block thing on there that to me seams like it could easily seize or catch and make my throttle stick open So im stumped as to what I should do I'll try em for a bit and I should be able to tell befor it goes full stick on me if im going to have an issue or not... pics later

Well I haven't turned down the pressure yet but I decided to drive it to work yesterday... Did great there and back... (About 20 min 1 way) No difference with the mods down low but when I passed a semi it kinda zipped around it and wasn't running out of steam towards the front like normal.... that was different.... and when kicked back cruising at 65-70 it wasn't hunting gears like it used to... I hope this is for sure gone because it was the main reason I avoided taking it on interstates. taking it to work again tonight.

also on hind sight I realized I should have left a coulple of triangulated bumps on the top of the TB for centering the gasket and salad bowl oops lol

Well apparently the pressure was too high for cheap injectors lol... so they're coming out (popped one) and I ordered AC delco's. they should be here tomorrow. hopefully that's the end of it getting towed for a while.... (forgot to mention that)

yeah, watched it coming out around the electrical prongs like snake venom off fangs... neat looking lol.
