Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

just out of curiosity.... whats the chance of the PROM chip going bad... maybe failing when it warms up or something..? It occurred to me that the ECM and everything else is new... but the prom is the original.

:dunno: just a thought... I'm grasping straws maybe... but them chips CAN go bad and still work. Some of the devices at my old plant had prom chips that would go bad and start acting odd once in a while. At this point I want a burned chip anyway to utilize the tbi mods better so I guess ill see then.

That could be a possibility but highly unlikely. Data logging will tell if the ecm is doing weird things. It to me sounds like its tanking when it goes closed loop.

And closed loop is when it starts taking o2 sensor into play.

You two took the words out of my mouth!

Rick, it's worth running without the O2 sensor, even if just to rule it out. It does look suspicious at this point.

I got my cable and downloaded the drivers..... now I just gotta see if it works (or if im smart enough to make it work:rolleyes:) I'll know in about 5 min:waytogo:

Well.... it doesn't work..... I cant get anything g to come up or change on the tuner pro screen. and the link to eaglemark's tutorial is WAY above my head.... I understand not one direction in it. I don't wanna edit stuff I just want to data log. I don't know where to start next

disconnect ting the o2 sensor didn't make a difference.... ran for a while and died right out. now I cant get it to start again even:doah:

Interesting. I remember having difficulty with getting tuner pro to work. It takes downloading several of the correct programs and then opening each of them properly. I got mine to work but it did take me a while. It took several times going through all the tutorials!

Anyway you said you replaced the entire distributor right? Nothing at all inside the distributor is left over?

main problem at this moment is my computer wont open the zip file tutorial in eaglemark's thread. a window flashes once like its opening but it never does, :dunno: wht program would I open a PHP file with?

What ecm do you have? You have to load the ads, xdf and bin for it to work properly. Also there is a bit of setup for cable using serial port etc. I left my laptop at work but can remote into your computer tomorrow if you have wifi signal near the burb

Whole dizzy and everything inside it. plus cap n rotor.

747, and what is an ADS,XDF, and BIN:dunno: I looked in "load bin" but its an empty folder. and the place it goes when I click the xdf spot at the top is empty too. I thought the tuner pro stuff was supposed to pull all that from the truck....

Nope. You have to download the proper XDF or BIN or whatever, and then select it from the list. I have a video that could possibly help some but its for how to burn a chip.

And just for the record, all this TBI BS is what made me do the dern LS swap! I dont know how or why, but i could NOT get my TBI 350 to run right! I fought it for years! And never had a correct idle. Seems lots of people have un solvable problems with their TBI. I cant figure out what the common denominator is, but have a couple theories.

I'm kind of in a rock and a hard place on a swap or fix it......

1. I have $1200 into this system since last april

2. even if I just did a carb swap ($600-$800 more) it would make nearly every penny of that $1200 worthless because it would no longer be needed.

3. my current motor has 118,000 on it and an ls would almost certainly have more. plus then im back to ALL old used stuff and have to start over (and still lose every penny of the $1200)

4. This motor runs amazing and smooth, and has woken up ALOT since the tbi mods were finished...... it just shuts its self off now and then.:dunno: a lot of times it will die once and drive fine for another 20 min or even a full day. Never know.

If it was a bad sensor or component I would think it would at least not run right when it does run.... but its like a new truck till it just dies. and then its a crap shoot as to whether it will even pop when you try and restart it.... spark shuts down completely comes back when it wants. that's why Myself im doubting that logging will find it. But I wanted to do that for future chip burning reasons so I figured id get the tools to do it now.
and where can I down load the proper xdf/bin None of the attachments or anything in the gearheadefi link will work for me. a window flashes and closes in the blink of an eye whenever I try one. never even gives me a chance to try and open it a different way

I feel like my next step would be a new wiring harness from a junk yard. Along with a new prom for the computer. Also from a junk yard.

the junk yard stuff bothers me because you have NO idea why that trucks in there to start with... may have been the same thing or close..... Mines come pretty close to getting put there a few times because of all this p!$$ing me off :haha: If I'm staying with the truck then i dont mind forking over for new... at least then even if thats not the problem I wont have to worry about these things again for the rest of the life of the truck...

I'll have to wait till after work (7pm) to click that link.....

well I had my uncle come over and he managed to show me how to open and save the zip file from eaglemark's thread...:thumb: much farther than I was there lol. now im going to go back through the thread and see if I can get farther yet...... hopefully.... big problem now is it wont start again:doah:

I still have my stock ECM from when I switched to the Dynamic EFI ECU if you would like me to send it out to you and do a plug in real quick to rule out the prom or ECU.

Its out of my 87 K5 350 TBI, BTW.

Check to see if it actually has fuel pressure and spark. Did you try dribbling a little gas down the throttle body? It would be nice to know if this was spark, fuel, or electronics related.

ECM is new. prom could be useful, but ill yank one from the JY as soon as I get there since I want a spare to try and burn ... thanks though.

its always been spark related. has plenty of gas going in. will crank and crank without even a single pop. then maybe the next time you try it it'll start right up. just never know... always has had gas though.
