C30 6.0, is NOW a burb swap, thread.

On the puller. I seen them, and I actually think mine might get it... :dunno:. I'm going to try anyway.
Now the installer, takes a crazy long azz bolt that I'm pretty sure my 2 balancer install kits don't have.

I don't understand all the backlash over torque to yield bolts. Yeah it's an added expense, but they were engineered for them. All bolts have a certain amount of elasticity. In this case they are designed to provide a very specific clamp load that holds the head down without issue.

Two choices, get the cheap torque angle gauge if you don't want to step up to a digital torque wrench that has the angle function or replace the bolts with ARP units that use a normal torque sequence.

I know the internet and youtube have thousands of examples of people reusing stock head bolts. With various results. I will say this, I've been at this dealer for almost 12 years and I have yet to see a head gasket failure due to stock head bolts on any gen 3 or later small block.

Just food for thought.

Well, sold my spare tons last night, so I have another small knot to throw down the rabbit hole.

Probably deal with fuel and cooling with that.

I decided to stick with the saddle tanks. Main reason for not wanting too was capacity and the dreaded transfer switch.
Plus to me it seems that with a long skinny tank it would be easy to starve it on hills..... Guess it works though :dunno:.
So I'll do a baffled 20 on the driver's side for now. Then later set up my passenger side tank (the one I use now) as a holding tank with a switch that just transfers fuel to the driver's side.

I dont really want to dig into another blazer tank conversion. Only reason I did on the other crew was because saddles will get in the way of the planned rear suspension.

i dont mind my pass side fuel transfer tank option . i just pump over as needed to driver side . check my budget beater build if you wana see how i did it and also keep from forgetting i am moving fuel and dont overflow a tank .

I'm going to go with dual gauges for that lol. Dash gauge is broke anyway.
I'll check it out though.:waytogo:

Is the EP381 the pump everyone uses for these swaps? I seem to remember hearing that.
But wasn't sure.

Fairly popular . 96 c3500 5.7vortec is a stock aplication . Clips direct on to 87 tbi sender and sock screen .

Make sure your planned power level will be feed by it for LPH .

I'll have to look up how to calculate that.

I think that pump is 60psi, 155lph.
I'm figuring about 400-410hp

Stock L92 is 405.
I'll have slightly less compression, same bore, a nearly negligible difference in head flow, and more cam.
Plus a tune.

I think it may possibly have been apart once before. Not sure. There's a few little things here and there.

Like it only has 1 of the 4 of these head alignment rings.
And a few places like the timing cover had what appeared to be replacement bolts. All the bolts have a smaller hex and then a molded washer like area. But a couple were just a normal hex bolt right between a few of the others.

I'm told it was from a van. If it was by chance a work van, maybe it had a short block at one time, since they usually rack up hrs idling :dunno:.

Doesn't matter cause it's going to the machine shop one way or the other for a clean, check, bore .065", and hone,. ... Next week :woot:

I also found out that dss racing sells a piston/ring kit, instead of buying them separately. And the kit comes with pre-sized rings. For the same price as the pistons and file fit rings separately.
So that is what I'll buy lol.

I almost forgot,... Since it will be infront of an auto. I'm going to go a step or 2 up in cam. Get one that starts around 1800 rpm instead. Since the auto is going to keep it above that most of the time anyway.
I'd go with the RV cam I wanted if it was getting a manual. But unfortunately it isn't. Lol.

Since I'm going to LS land .... M.A.W build it like an LS

Lol no. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell that means even. Seen about 2 dozen vids with it, but no real numbers for the cam

Typically it refers to the Sloppy Mechanics YouTube channel. The cam is an Elgin 1840-P (or one with similar specs). For cams, you can also look at Summit’s truck series of LS cams. I have the 8719 going into an LQ4 for my swap. I think James from Merrick’s Garage is going one step up to the 8720 in the K30 Blazer.

Well just remember the phase "solid roller" when ordering.

The 8718 is what I was going to use. And the 8719 is what I'm going up to lol. I kind of thought about the next step up. But don't want to get to far for stock converter.
They say the next one up will work with stock, but is pushing it. I figure the 8719, upgraded springs, and the .065" bore should get me more than enough play power and still be practical and torquey

Can't get the trans and block apart...?:dunno::1zhelp:
