Camaro my Brother gave me

All true and good points.

I bet my engine is about the same as lutz. Maybe even further back.

Its possible, what actually matters is the engine relative to the wheelbase and the front wheels, not the cowl. So if you are stretching the front wheels forward more that will put more weight on the back and that does help out no doubt, not only with that but with track handling. Although it appears the front his engine block is approximately even with the back of the front tires.

folkenheath, have you ever run some numbers regarding moving an engine back and how much it changes weight bias and so on?

There used to be a saying, taking your battery out of the front and putting it in the back is like moving your engine back 2". Its actually pretty close.

This will have alumjnum heads eventually.

I haven't done the math on that, probably isn't far off, but most drag cars at that level do both. Moving the battery back is one of the first things you do. Although these days they have some crazy light batteries, but I can't afford them.

The only reason I used Lutz's car as an example is because its so famous and easy to find pictures of. If you compare to his other one he built before, it appears to be a foot further back or more, although the new one is made for no prep crap so it may be too far for real race tracks. Somewhere in between might be best for real race tracks. Yours looks more similar to this one below from where the wheels appear to be.

I look forward to seeing your car at the track, should be a blast to drive. The car is awesome either way so don't think I am being negative, just trying to keep you on your toes so it turns out the best possible for you. :waytogo:

Its all good.

Honestly, i would have liked to go back a tick further however, my footwell is already crowded, so that was a limiting factor. Plus, gotta be able to work on things and sometimes it may need to be worked on quickly.

Also, when i say raising the engine up, gotta keep that relative to a "cog" that is a bit fluid at the moment. No matter what it wont be very high but there is an envelope to play within.

Prep and no prep make for a huge difference!

I hear you there, it appears the yellow 67 would be a PITA for engine maintanance. And although no prep is fun to watch, screw that. I don't want to be purposely driving on a non safe surface just to be crashed into when I am in my own lane or something, they are always crashing. Its like they are taking the safety back out of a purpose built track.

Last time I was at the track and sprayed it, I blew the tires off, pedaled it 4 times or so and my ET was within .02 of all motor. ha ha. So I talked to the track official and they prepped it right then and there (they said they just scraped it clean to start over from too much buildup the weekend before). Anyway, he said try it again now, (it had only been 10 minutes). So I went back up fully expecting to spin again that night and the car dead hooked, picked the wheels a little, and I was gone.

So you say you are getting aluminum heads eventually? You staying NA or any power adders in the plans?

Its looking real good Kert, getting a lot closer, you must be excited!

It appears you have a shot at this summer? Still a lot of work though, whats your plan?
