It’s been a long journey, great to.see it (almost) completed!

So we have some deeper issues with the ecu. Cant get this thing to fire.

We went from 9300 rpm on the laptop dashboard while in run position after cranking but not actually starting to zero rpms while cranking.

Voltage alarm and no voltage alarms when there should be. ATS fault was there, corrected. Then no ATS fault when it should have been.

Currently FAST recommends moving the ecu further away from MSD box, citing possible RF interference. However it ran and ran well as it is currently.

Only major change from then till now is the ecu was rebuilt by FAST and flashed to newest version software.

Many other things have changed electrically but all of those have been backed out to trouble shoot. Electrically were back to where it ran before. To no avail. Cant undo the ecu flash.

Sounds like they F’d up your ecu.

Kert, you are controlling the timing with the XFI right? So you have the distributor pickup signal going from the distributor to the XFI ecu and then that triggers the MSD box through the white wire? So why don't you try unhooking the MSD box from the battery and seeing if the rpm signal issues go away? Obviously it won't start but it should tell you whether or not the MSD box is causing electrical noise issues where it is mounted and wired if the RPM signal is suddenly rock solid.

I typically mount any ignition box on the opposite side of the vehicle as the ECU, whether it be under the hood or under the dash. Ignition boxes output a lot of higher voltage stuff sometimes upwards of 4,000 volts going into the coil(after the coil it can be 10x that), and that creates a larger field of electrical noise than any 5v or 12v stuff does.

Also, I assume you have the main power and ground of the ECU directly to the battery, and not to the frame?

What plug wires do you have? I always recommend units that are spiral wound and under 50 ohms/ft to reduce electrical noise after the coil.

I did your test and proof positive. It is the msd box causing the rf noise.

I could relatively easily move the msd box back on the passenger side 4'.

What about the coil wires? If I go back on the pass side, coil wires still have to go past the xfi.

Not alot of options forward.

Msd box running on 18v creates so much rf I cant have it in the car....

Are you saying the MSD box causes a problem no matter where it is in the car? You may need some sort of filter in there then or different wiring. It sucks when that stuff happens because one blames the other and they won't help you many times.

Do you have resistor core spark plugs?

If the coil wires have to go past the ECU or wires try not to run them parallel and make sure the grounds are solid and the ECU is directly to the battery. You can try moving the ground for the MSD box from the frame to the battery and see if one is better. But the ECU has to be at the battery.

MSD has always been good to me. Spent a good amount of time talking on the phone and got a list of changes suggested.

Msd box grounded to battery. Possible floating ground.

Rerouting coil and ipu wires.

Replacing plug wires. Mine are pretty old.
