Carb troubles ????

I said screw it and ordered a reuild kit and float kit for $50. I saw a puddle of gas on the inside of the carb in the back left corner, not moving or being sucked anywhere, just sitting.... lol. I also ordered a manual with step by step instructions by Larry Shepard for dummies like me lol. $10.

Not to be an A$$ or anything but its PCV valve, we plumbers are pretty particular about our PVC pipe lol.

lol as I was typing it I paused because I put PVC, reread it and was like . Guess I retyped it PVC anyway.

Are their any pluses to hooking manifold vacuum to the distributor??
I guess on the ported (the left) at idle their wont be vacuum but their will on the Manifold side. I just made a new thread about Ported Vs Nonported, so we shall see what people say. I guess theirs lots of different opinions on what is better. But heres the link.

...(I'm not going to start a ported/mannifold vacuum for distributor discussion here.)...

Good information on that topic - That question is played out on every gearhead forum on the interwebs, here too. You'll find countless pages if you run a search on this forum.

haha yah like i said no biggie lol. But you said if its drizzling gas out unequally its most likely the gummed up carb right? I ordered a rebuild kit and manual on how to do it. If i read the instructions and such, how long do you think it should take to tear it down, clean it and put back together???

A month or so back, rebuilt my first carb, a Q-Jet. Took almost 2 hours. But I half assed it with what I had. Didn't let the parts soak or anything, brush, simple green, spray carb cleaner. No adjusting, bending..etc. Cleaned, new gaskets, back together.

Im gonna try to do a good job, i just kinda wanted to know if its something i could do in an afternoon, and sounds like i should be able to. I just dont wanna rip the carb off and then it be way harder than what i expected lol. But im gonna regasket it and soak it really good and hopefully get it running correctly. Im so sick of 8mpg, i really hope this helps.

Yeah I spent like all day today messing with my carb.... I messed with the timing and the accel pump. Either it runs like a beast (warmed up with the choke valve like a 1/4 inch open) but then it chugs when cruising around at 30mph !!! OR with it fully warmed up and the choke valve open fully it hesitates bad and sometimes stalls from a take off ......Im so stumped !!!!! Should have bought a Holley!!!!!!

Plus you already ordered the choke kit so your stuck with it now!! haha

Well...I really think its my accelerator pump... Once I get my new one in the mail, im going to tear down the carb and clean the crap out of it and check the bowl measurements. I'll keep you guys updated...
