Chalet's 72 Jimmy Thread

Obviously still a little work to do under the hood, but painted the insides of the fenders and bolted them on today. Clicky the top pic

Thanks. Kind of hit a wall after the old man passed and couldn't seem to get anywhere. Lucked out and found a guy on a local forum who knows a lot about these and was willing to trade some work for parts. We (he mostly) have about 12 hrs of wiring and other stuff knocked out to get it started. I'm feeling good about it now and ought to be able to get this sh1t knocked out.

Info I had saved in my blog that Steve moved over as the blogs are going away. Truck hasn't been touched since 2012. Long story short it sits about 25' from my desk just inside my warehouse but been too busy at work making a living to mess with it. I've got a contractor building a garage at the house so hopefully in the next 30 days it will be going home and I can get some evening/weekend time on it and plan to have it rolling by 9/1/2015(opening day of dove season). I should be back around a little more once I get back on it.

Kind of stupid question, but is there anything to know about coolant reservoirs? Need to do some rearranging in the engine bay so the stock one is going. Figure with the 400 plus the HD radiator I installed might make sense to put in a bigger one. Have been browsing summit and there are a ton of different ones.

I loved your build thread, what an awesome truck, I love 400 SB's. Do you have any recent photos or updates?

Going to try and be around a little more. About had this going last time around and ran into some wiring / light issues. Decided to rip everything out and start over with the wiring. Got the rippin out done and then life sidetracked me. MIddle daughter is fixing to get her license and wants to drive it so here we go. Those pics are about a week old, have most of it done now and we are working on finishing off the engine bay. I'll be able to drive it around the black pretty soon again and then get back to knocking out the things I am better at.

Wife left me last year, been a rough journey but upside is I have time to do things now - like work on trucks so I should be able to stay on course.

Sorry about the wife.
Good to see you back at it

Yep it sucks, 25 years of it you'd think we had it figured out.

Did some more wiring, most sendors tied off, just need to finish up lights and fan wiring. I have Entropy dual fans. Also, did the cheap lmc headlight harness upgrade years ago. Basically going to hardwire that now that the rats of oe harness is gone. Hopefully have that done in the next week. Not much but it keeps coming along.

Couple pics. Cheap amazon weatherpak connectors so the gauge panel will be easy to remobe from now on.

The cheap manual choke conversion we put on doesnt want to stay adjusted, just too many pivot points or something. Going to remove it for now and if I am driving it when cools off get a carb with electric choke.
