Chevy Dana 60 front help

The trouble with a lot of the cheap 1-tons for sale is they don't have the 60 in them anymore, they were taken out and sold and 1/2 or 3/4 ton are slid in there.

so i need to buy them all when i find them, rent a huge trailer and go to a car/truck meet over in your area!!!!!!!!!! make it rain D60's on the west coast!!!!!!!
I'd accept that :)
Some guy in Az did it and is not wheeler friendly with his pricing, just in it to make a buck, not a part of the community.
It's frustrating when some of us have families and are limited budgets. It'd be different if it didn't need anything but when we all know the money involved in just a minor rebuild taking advantage is just shady.

not on the east...

1 on CL right now
chevy dana 60 and 2 14 bolts. 410 gears, one rear is posi no pinion, has factory disc brakes, wider HD casting. 1000 for all 3.
Is the Dana 60 a front SRW and I wonder how much it would cost to ship 3 axles to Ca. ?

I really do appreciate the help and advice from everyone. It makes me regret being away from wheeling so long and how supportive the community is. Not to mention it helps light a fire under my rear to get this accomplished so maybe my 4 and 6 yr olds can stop asking when they can go for a ride in daddy's truck haha. Plus the wife can read what it takes to get past this hurdle. Thanks again everyone.

You're not too far from me. About 30 mins south.

I forgot to mention that I first found my d60 on CL for $1200. It was a dually as mentioned but it just came off a wood chipping truck, so I had some confidence it was totally rotted out. The ad was on there for a few weeks. I initially asked how flexible he was and he said no way. About 2 weeks went by and he emailed asking what my offer was.

These d60s are kinda like diesel trucks. Everyone thinks theirs is worth 50k over the price of a new one but when push comes to shove they're not selling them for that.

Here in Michigan there still priced around $1k or so. At the price the guys out there are trying to sell them for you could buy a set of Rockwells! But like stated above the real trick is buying home trucks, running or not. After you pull what you want part out the rest or to the strap yard w/ it. I lucked out & payed $850 for a 60/14 combo back in 2009 or so. Best way to buy just a 60 is in its stock for, if it's any other way people want labor & parts cost for them

I agree, finding one untouched anywhere nearby seems to be a magic trick I haven't mastered but so far everyone that has responded has been helpful. If anyone hears of one and doesn't need it, I sure do.

You need to look in the small junkyards or private sellers to get good deals. If somebody is posting a D60 on an off-road specific site or even an Craigslist they generally know what they have. I highly recommend looking for a complete truck also. You can often find a complete truck for less than some what for a front D60. Even if it is a non-running rusted out farm truck you can steal the front axle and either replace it with a $150 10-bolt and resell the whole truck or part it out. Years ago I paid $800 for a complete and running, but completely rusted out, '78 1-ton truck. Drove it on the trailer and pulled the front axle out as soon as I got home, pulled the cab and had the local scrapper come get it, and sold off the rest of the drivetrain to get several hundred dollars back.

Yeah, a Dana 60 would be ideal for my build too. But I refuse to pay what people around here are asking for them. Guess I will just get a lot of practice with trail repairs on my 44!

Right as I was going through the process of buying my house I ran across a set of cucv axles two hours away for 900. Hooked up the trailer and went that night, didn't have anything to put them under yet but knew I couldnt pass the deal up. Everyone I see local now is 1200+

Wanna sell 'em? ;)
