ck5 alaska trip-july 1 2011 to july 11 2011

Is there a road that you can drive from here to there towing a rig and a camper. I haven't ever looked into it so have no clue.

I am SO interested in a 2011 trip. It will be right after I graduate and I've been thinking that a fantastic wheeling out back adventure is the perfect way to celebrate. Looks like fuel for me to travel to and from anchorage in my blazer would cost around $1200 - not too bad, really. Then, figure in the cost of supplies for the actual wheeling part... I bet I could come up with $3K in the next 2 years. Still need to do some work on the truck to be ready for such a trip though... seems doable! I want to stay posted on this!!! :D

Well as of just now I have officially canceled all other wheeling trips I have planned, this is my dream trip.

So my vote is for 2011, I will need that much time to save the money and get the tow rig ready to tow from Idaho to Alaska.

I think my rig will do fine on a trip like this, It can carry quite a bit of stuff and 44" tires, need to get the axles more reliable though. Most everything else on the truck is pretty good.

i will post the dates for the 2011 trip in another thread but figure it will be end of june to 10th or so of july.
what do you need to do to the axles?i run a 454/sm465/205 on 44s right now and only broke 1 stock stub, but that was while trying to pull out the burban that had the pitbull drag slicks on it

I would really like to have Chro mos in them. I am breaking stubs right now with stock shafts. So right now will be going to 35 spline outers and see how they hold up. On a trip that long though I would certainly need to take a full set of axles for spares.

I remember your comments on the pit bulls, worries me a bit thats what I am running. Of course I have loved them everywhere here. Certainly not going to let the brand of tires I have keep from coming.

Looked it up I am going to need probably 2 grand for gas money. Yep still going to try to make it though.

lol we can tow you around too lol who knows i might have moved on to ag tires by then and will have my 44s as spares.

If we both end up going, we'll have to caravan at some point. Not sure at what point you'd cut over West though - you wouldn't shoot over to I5 to begin with, would you?

What a BAD ASS trip to offer up to get going. Thats pretty cool. I would LOVE to experience such a trip. I guess I better get my ass in gear and get my rig finished :D

So I just mapped this out the route that is 3154 miles takes seven days accoring to Map Point, :), wouldn't take that long but wow long drive.

So what are the rules in Canada when driving through bringing guns can't, can ? how does it work?

Does Canada have a lenght requirement for vehicles as in towing how liong can it be. ?

What about hunting when we get to Alaska anything in season or no chance ?

This trip is INCREDIBLY tempting. I would love to go as it would be a total dream to do a trip like this. I can only assume that as you state, 38s are rqd.

I am in the process of building my rig now but was only planning on going 35's. Still, a stout truck on 35's. 1 ton gear fully locked with full recovery gear, winches etc.

No chance for the smaller brethren? :frown1:

After reading this thread this morning, we're discussing weither or not it's feasible or not. We're in Virginia and both have wanted to see Alaska, what better way than out in the wilderness, right?

Since I'm just starting a build, a slight change of direction won't be a big problem. I'm curious if the 38's would be required as well. The plan was to do well built 1/2 ton stuff on 36's. If I go one ton stuff, I'll go considerably bigger on tires, but we'll have to see. We're going to keep talking about going and hopefully make the 2011 trip if at all possible.

This would be the trip of a life time for us and would be worth missing 3 weeks of work to have enough time for it!

nope, we need to just get a car hauler, a bad ass dodge diesel dually and put like all the NW rigs on it and haul 'em all up there on that... :D that would be all kinds of cool. I call shotgun... when I'm not driving. :haha:

Now that is a good idea. But if all else fails, then convoying up to Alaska with a bunch of CK5 members in a row would be a good thing to do.
