ck5 alaska trip-july 1 2011 to july 11 2011

Alaskan style. You know? Everything is "Tougher in Alaska!":D And it's true, I lived there for several years and life is tougher, even in the cities.

a reminder :D

I was talking to my 8yr old son this weekend about getting my K5 finished, he said "you have less then two years" I said " two years? why two years" He said "our Alaska trip remember" :D

Sweet

I have already stashed away some money. Even found out a way to go to the Dakotas this spring with some friends and not spend hardly anything

how many would like to do a wheeling trip up here and how many could bring a rig to do it?i know there would be plenty of open seats for people that cant bring a rig.
im thinking in 2010 or 2011 to give people time to prep for the trip.rig specs would need to be min 38" tire with at least 1 locker and preferably a winch.i could plan a 250-300 mile off road trip over a 7-10 day time frame in the eureka area.lots of good fishing and wheeling and also get to see some of the best sites in the country.
thoughts ideas etc?
if this is something enough people are interested in doing i can start getting this end set up.i have a pretty much fully equipted shop here at home for repairs before or after the run.

DATES ADDED-THESE ARE ON TRAIL DATES.11 DAYS TOTAL!!
the run dates will be JULY 1 2011 to JULY 10 2011.we will leave the parking lot the morning of july 1 at aprox 9 am .plan on a 12-14 hr day the 1st day to reach where we will have the 1st base camp.
everyone should plan on being up here 2 days before the run-june 28th- so you can have a day to rest and a day to get food and do any last minute repairs on the rigs.will have a rig inspection that day also to double check that all the rigs are ready to go.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

min requirements

38" mud tires-

1 locker

winch prefered-min 2 winch rigs to 1 non winch rig

gas for 300 miles off road-figure it at 4 mpg-thats what we have been averaging

tow points front and rear

recovery strap

spare or means to fix a torn sidewall

shovel

high lift

seat belts for each person riding in the rig

first aid kit

gloves for winching

tent-unless planning to sleep in your rig

basic tools and any specialty tools needed for
your rig

if open topped rig must have roll bar

cb radio

recomended items
spare parts*************LOTS
rain gear
warm clothes-can get in the 20-40s at night
flash light and batterys
tarp to cover tent

prepare for bad weather and cold temps.

heres the minumum stuff. as the trips are planned we might add more stuff.also prep the rigs for deep water crossings.if we decide to cross the mclaren river it can be 5 ft or more deep.other crossings average up to 4 ft deep in places plus the hidden holes.:haha:
the tire size could be dropped to 35 IF the rig is locked FRONT AND REAR and has a winch.but the tires would need to be a very aggressive tire-ie boggers etc.no standard mud tires and def NO ALLTERRAINS.
we have run fullsized rigs inthis area on 35s and they tend to just sink in the holes.
i realize a trip like this would be the trip of a life time for a lot of you and i would want to beable to cover as much ground back there as we can with out always being stuck.
one trail we took took us 13 hrs to go 12 miles. 1st 4 miles took 9 hrs.
i do have extra sets of tires thta could be used 37s and wide 35s that will fit 1/2 tons.if your running a 1/2 ton locked front you will need to bring 2 complete sets of front shafts because you not be able to climb monument in 2wd.and the idea of being chained to a rig climbing that hill is a scary thought.

as far as hunting it is opne black and brown bear season in that area year round.you will need to get with fish and game to see what the out of state requirments are.most of the rivers and creeks have dolly vardon and trout and greylings in them.plusthere ptarmigans if you like bird.
canada has some strick gun rules.check before you bring them-wouldnt want to lose tham at the border.if needed i can get a gun dealers info so you could send them up threw them.

Just a reminder.

Also, I plan on going.

Maybe I can make the 2012 trip as long as the world is still here :D . I am doing a little backpacking in Denali in June this year though.

NEW DATES FOR 2010- JULY 9TH TO JULY 17TH!!!!!!

Ok. I'm definitely in. I've got the finances all arranged for the 2011 trip. I'm a bit confused by the update on the first post, though. I've quoted it above. There are four different dates listed there....

July 2010
June 28th?
July 2011, 9th-17th
July 2011, 1st?

Can you clarify what's going on there? I'm assuming you're referring to 2010, because 2011 is still a long ways out.

I would really like to go on this trip, but being from florida with no tow rig...I would probably have to ride with someone. This really would be the trip of a lifetime.
