Show us what you've got.

- How size is it?

- What type - steel building, pole barn, etc?

- How many doors and what size?

- What would you change?

- Pics are always a plus. :thumb:

Mine is 24x32x8
The biggest thing I would change because of my age is to put in a lift, of course that would require 12' walls but that would be welcome too.
I wish I had more room overall, as I use 1/2 of it to store toys in the winter, so actual shop space is down to 18x24.
I have electric heat which is worth every penny. Also have air for hot humid MI days.
I have insulated walls and ceiling, with a ceiling fan in each to distribute the heat evenly.
I have 100 amps to my service panel, plenty for anything I want to do out there.

This is an interior shot which shows the OSB wall covering and one of two electric heaters

This is an exterior shot....local code limited the size to 24x32 in front of the house, and required same siding and roof as the residence

your basic 2 car torture pit...... :woot:  :doah:

Currently, I've got an attached single car garage with parts & tools inside and the K5 outside in the back yard. I'm seriously considering building a 18x36x14 pole barn in the back yard for all of it so I can turn the garage over to the wife.

Because of the layout of the house / property / septic system the shop will have to be built perpendicular to the house with a single large roll up door on the 18' side (so it will be deep as opposed to wide with multiple doors). Does that make sense?

With it 36' deep I can put all my stuff in the far end and have the half closest to the door free to work on the K5. Is 18' wide enough? I really can't go wider but also don't want to be disappointed if I can't walk/work around the K5 inside the shop.

40x50 pole barn. 16x24 insulated and heated fab room. 17 220v outlets. 34 110v outlets. 15air outlets. 2 post lift. Would have built it bigger if it did not come with the house.

That shop is sweet! I wish I could afford to buy it too Wade. The wife wouldnt approve with those spiders that fall from your celing anyways

32x36 garage, my wife rarely gets to park in, insulated, heated.

I will take some pics. If I didn't have about 4 motors kicking around right now I would have room to work on everything that is in there.

Which currently is my 89 crew cab dually, 89 Jimmy, and a (not mine) 55 Willys wagon

28' x 40' 10'6" ceiling height downstairs, 2 floor wood framed barn, still under construction, getting electric and insulation this year, also framing a 10' x 40' on one side for garden equipment and firewood. ceiling mounted large LP heater downstairs and a freestanding LP gas stove to heat the upstairs , (2) 220V AC units one at each end upstairs and havent decided on AC for the downstairs. I have a dozen high bay style lights plus some others lights downstairs, lots of outlets inside and out and multiple 220 outlets for the Mig and plasma. 2 roll up doors 9' high, 1 man door downstairs and 1 upstairs. Did a 6" reinforced slab for the main building and a 4" for the 10x40. The upstairs has 3 dormers on one side 1 with the man door and 2 with windows also did large windows on each end, no windows downstairs. If I could start over I would no doubt do a mininum 40 x 60. My orginal plan started with a 16 x24 to replace the 10 x12 shed that was there so the 28 x 40 seemed huge till I started putting crap in it, now it seems small, but better than the 2.5 car Im currently using.

i hate all of you.

2 car garage with not enough room to park a vehicle, its only good for the washing machine and my tools. if the blazer was lower i think it might squeeze in, but doubftul .

Same boat, here.:(

I can't wait to get a place where I can actually work on something indoors.

WE're shopping now, i told wifey that if i dont get to get a house with a 3 car garage, then we have to get one cheap enough that we can afford to build a shop or atleaset a second garage in the back yard. gonna be hard in suburbia california tho.

Please tell me that's tied into your income somehow and not all for hobby stuff.

This thread is downright depressing. I use a "2" car garage (although I don't see how you could squeeze two average cars in there even if it was 100% empty) that has shelves on both sides along with my tools, the lawn care junk and washer/dryer and freezer and there's barely enough room to squeeze my mom's little santa fe' in the middle.
I work on the k10 outside unless it's a major project in which case I air down the tires and put a couple fat guys in it, hold up the weather strip around the door and back it in. :)

Okay, I'll play. I've got an attached 2 car, that is a train wreck on the inside. At one time, I had my 89 Blazer, a 74 3/4 ton, and a 98 cherokee in there, it's a little bigger than a standard 2 car.

We've been cleaning it out for the last bit to get it ready to tear down the Blazer again. Prb got another weekend to go to have it "ready"

I do metal, wood, auto, and guns in it, so it gets crowded. Once it's cleaned up, I'll have a bar, a tv, a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and AC out there. It's all "in there" now, but it's a damn mess:

I've got my portable welding table that is buried up in there too, that I need to finish. I've got 2 ventahoods (old ones from the house) that I use, one over the top of the gun bench, and the other will be mounted over the top of my welding table. They aren't commercial grade, but they do move some of the fumes up and out when I'm soldering/welding/cleaning etc... and provide nice light where I'm working.

The kitchen cabinets came from a co-worker that got new, I took all the old and turned them into the wood shop. Used the sink hole for the router mount (lots of run off room now) and put the shop vac where the dishwasher used to be, then plumbed in PVC for a homemade dust collection system. The ladder in the second pic is leaning on my bar, behind the bar is the shopsmith and belt sander.

Since the 2nd kid was born, the garage turned into a big damn storage unit that we are fixing.

Kyle, yours is "clean" compared to my shop. I'll take pics of mine but gotta be warned that its cluttered. :doah:
