CK5 Shops & Garages

30x50x10, 20x8 doors. Plenty of room for 4 REAL vehicles along with room to work on them with all 4 still in their spots. I don't do much mechanical stuff in here, it's mostly just a garage. Changing oil and rotating tires are the norm here. Although, I did restore my K5 in here.

Second is our welding shop, and third is the heavy mechanical repair shop.

Now that's what a "2" car garage should be like. The 2 car garages they put on houses around here are a joke. A car and enough room for a lawn mower is about all.

Yep, I pretty much figure you've got to have a 10x25' area per vehicle to have decent room around it.

Here is my "build thread" for mine.

I am fixing up the old milk barn that was converted into a shop years ago, and then left unused off and on for the past 25 years. It was in pretty poor shape when I started on it (it still is, but it is getting better) . I had just been using in for storage for old parts for the past few years. The roof leaked, it had wild animals living in it, and almost every window had a broken pane of glass in it.

This is it after I got the roof tinned on it.

It is 36'x28'x8'. The overhead door is 9'x9' (even though the rafters are only 8' from the floor.....) It has 5 windows on the South wall, 2 windows on the North wall, and 1 window on the East wall. The West wall has a wide short door (where the cows came in), the North wall has a short narrow door, and the East wall has walk in door into the old parlor.

What I love about old buildings and barns is the fact when they're so old and worn, nobody will think twice about snooping around to see whats in them. Just another hole-in-the-wall barn with some hay in them is all they need to be thinking.

heres is our 2 car garage/party pavilion/toy storage/fab shop.

its a 2 car garage my dad built several years ago. one garage door, and one man door.

theres just enough room to pull in the trucks and work on them.

ive also got two conex boxes that uncle sam was nice enough to donate to the cause. one holds all of my spare chevy parts and the other holds all of moms junk.

mines a 2 car garage if theres nothing else in it. i can barely get my offroad car in it with all the tools and stuff i got. blazer is behind the shed awaiting 52's in front, 64's in back, and a lq4 6.0 and od trans. shed is full of misc parts too. chevelle in the weeds is waiting for a twin turbo bigblock and a little body work, currently runs and drives with a small block.

Corvette diff Brett????

Hows that coming?

mabye it is

figure easy job to keep my mind from going crazy and nothin to heavy i mess my self up with before i get fixed. and 1-2 hr at a time dont kill me.

but now i am waiting for parts from friend to finish it for him.

richmond gear install kit carrier shim assortment sucked . not much fine adjustment offered. had him get me a ratech set of carrier shims for me that offer a lot more adjustment.

that like was great. even stole his idea of engine stand for holding the diff.

best money i ever spent was yukon bearing puller setup. that thing is slick :saweet:

did you price shop the puller? I'm in the market...

got it year or so ago with big group buy on parts from rpm offroad . there is cheeper units from diffrent nock off places. but dont know on the quality .

you will not be sorry for the purchase of it tho. it works 100%

and like i said it can even pull up pinion bearings that are pressed on.

if the carrier uses shims on the unit it dont even harm them on removal of bearing from carrier.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR-ARB/articles/Randys_Carrier_Bearing_Puller_Review/

step by step with good pics on how to use it.

and fyi the big white cup unit with it is EXTRA $$$ its for big bearing dana 70 and dana 80 axles. dosnt come with the std kit.

yeah, I can't see needing to do the bigger stuff.. I'm getting a bunch of stuff thru

http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/

they have it for $350... but there's a link someone gave me buried in my novel, where it's like $275... for $75, I'll split the order.....

Brett, any idea of the true width? Can you actually work on a car/truck inside at that width?

I ask because I'm close to deciding on having a shop built but because of the layout of my back yard/grade/septic system it's going to be 18' wide which equals 17' of interior width. Per the tape measure this should yield about 3'~4' on each side of the K5, is that enough??

use to work in 7 bay/lift shop with big wide layout lots of room. now i quite last july. 10 years i was burnt out wrenchin for a livin.

now i will be workin in here for a bit. no real world work yet.

but will get specs sat for ya . and its a slight offset garage door. wider on 1 side than other.

I've been working that pretty much. my shop that I'm working on the K5 is 18' wide, but has 28" workbench's on one side, and with the toolbox and cabinets hanging off the wall on the other side its down to about 14' of useable floor for width, and that's ok to work in.
