Clifford Project - '88 Cummins CrewCab

I don't drive it enough to really figure out mileage. Plus my odometer has been stuck at 26962 since I got it. (no speedo cable) :haha:

Built a new linkage for the throttle today using heims. Came out pretty nice.

After discussing the driver side lean with Aaron (rompinstompinmudmonkey) we realized that my motor sits 2" to the driver side like it did in the Dodge. I had the factory overloads from my Tacoma still (5/8" thick) so I cut one down and bolted into the driver leaf pack. It sits about 1/8" high on the driver side now. :thumb:

Been real busy with work and the weather has been sh!tty during the weekends so I haven't got much done lately. Still need to put the shackle flip on so I can finish up the suspension and tackle the fuel lines once again.

I did pick up a 2" cowl hood a couple weeks ago though for a good price here in town. I'll need the extra room for some future plans and the boss ok'd it when I asked so I snagged it before she changed her mind. Managed to get it wrestled on today with the wife (who is shorter than the hood :doah::haha:). Now I'm thinking about paint....

painting just the hood, or everything?

what brand and how does it fit?

Thinking about painting the whole truck. I'm not a red kinda guy and have always planned on painting it at some point. I can't decide if I want to have it done, spray it myself with some single stage, bed line it all, or just camo it.

Got the hood from Speedway Performance Accessories in Grand Prairie for $324 out the door. Not sure who the actual manufacturer is but it's "imported". Fit is good. Only thing I noticed is the holder for the pop assist spring is different than the factory but it holds it just fine. I'll have to modify the bracing later on as it basically has stock bracing and is in the way for anything that would protrude the stock hood.

Looks good like that. Not usually into red either but a patina'd red is another story. The satin black cowl induction hood gives it that muscle car vibe. The hood should definitely be painted though just for permanency.

I dislike red as well, but it is much too nice to camo or bedline.

Yeah, please don't camo or bedline this thing

Especially bedliner, it looks awful

Really paint is coming down to a tasteful camo or dark grey Rustoleum job. Will be a bit yet as I'm waiting to get out of this rental.

Flip and Switch pics soon. Just need to bolt it on.

:doah:Ended up with the wrong kit so waiting on the right one. Kurt's sending the new one out tomorrow so hopefully I can get it wrapped up this weekend.

I'm with CUCV2 on this one. I'm never a red guy either (passed up on my grandmothers red 89 5.0 when i was 14). But in this case, with a decently clean but patina'd body... the Clifford looks totally bad ass as is. I also understand that its always gonna be a thing... if you don't paint it, but I think it deserves a clean re-spray.

really nice job on the bed-rack btw looks sharp

I'm leaning towards dark grey respray. Just can't decide between having it done or spray it myself. I'm too lazy to do a base/clear so it would most likely be a single stage. It would just be a matter as finding a good paint that would last. Most big rig shops will do it for a grand or so, but it also needs to be jammed. I'll probably wait to get a new house and tear it down. We're looking for a place with a shop so I'll have the space to do it. I don't think the landlord would like me doing it in the driveway. Part of me wants to just say fock it and go camo.

Got the Flip & Switch on. Big thanks to Kert and Tracy for taking care of me and getting the new kit out so fast. :waytogo:

Looks like it ended up right where it was with the blocks and needs to come up and inch or two. Going to run and EZ-Inch to kick the axle back the full 1.5". I'm not keen on stacking the EZ-Inch with a block so it's only going to get an inch for now. I would get some 6" shackles for a little extra lift but that will make the pinion angle worse and I think the 4.5" will be better for towing.

Need to order U-bolts, plates, shims, and EZ-Inch tomorrow. I was hoping to get away without shims, but the pinion is pointed a few degrees the wrong way. Trying to decide on what shims. 6* puts the pinion angle where I need it, but contemplating 8* to compensate for pinion change under load/torque. Any input?
