Clifford Project - '88 Cummins CrewCab

Yep. Waiting on the tapped banjo bolt from Geno's. It's been out for delivery since 9:30 yesterday morning. No wonder the USPS is going down.

Are you going to mount them next to the 3 in one gauge you already have? Or are you going to put them in a pod? I saw a thread awhile ago where someone was making 3 gauge pillar pods for our trucks but I can't remember where I saw it

These are the 7 color so they match the 3-in-1 gauge I already had. The colors are slightly off from the 3-in-1, but not enough to bother me. Ignore the blurriness, it's part my camera and the little protective covers were still on in this pic. I probably wouldn't get a pod if there was one. I've really been wanting to do a fiberglass project for a long time, and I think this dash may be it.

So I got the new sender in the passenger tank and the switching valve both replaced. Remember the in-tank pump is still in the driver tank and there is now a draw straw in the pass tank. On the pump I'm getting 7-9psi at idle, around 7 cruising and it will suck it down to ~3psi on a hard pull. On the draw straw it's barely 5psi at idle, ~3 cruising, and will suck down to 0. Stock is about 5psi, but 18psi is supposed to be ideal for the VE injection pump. So like I suspected it's running out of fuel with my mods.

So I picked up the 2nd gen 12v piston lift pump for the P-pump engines yesterday. The VE lift pumps are a diaphragm design. The new pump being piston is more reliable along with added pressure. This pump puts out 30+psi though. So I need to order a regulator, some fittings, and hose to put it all together. This will let me set it where I want it and it should hold that pressure or close to it no matter the driving condition. I looked into the low pressure piston lift pump from the industrial apps but the pressures seem to be hit and miss and not much better than the stock 5psi.

I really dislike chrome on most things and the grill bothered me so I gave the truck a quick facelift too. I need to get new bezels so I just spray painted the crappy old one real quick to see what it looks like. Much better IMO.

I did the 2nd Gen high pressure pump and regulator a couple weeks ago. The pressures are a little different between tanks, but I'm in the process of running the driver tank down so I can swap out the pump for a draw straw. Picked up the pump, spacer, and gaskets from Cummins. Regulator came from Summit, and all the hoses and fittings from Vulcan Performance.

I have it regulated to 15psi which it stays pretty close to cruising. It still holds 10+psi when getting on it. MUCH better than before. I didn't notice any power difference, but it holds strong through the RPM band which it used to fall off on the top end.

I finished running 3/8" feed and 5/16" return lines on the truck. From the pump>regulator>filter housing is all 1/2". Used the bracket that came with the regulator, just bent it to how I needed it. Mounted it on one of the intake horn bolts. Pics are before I had the return hooked up.

Have you done much towing with this truck yet? I'm interested in how the egts are without an intercooler.

The only towing I've done so far was only 3-3500lbs. It did fine with that. EGT's are really only an issue when I'm getting on it and holding it at the top of a gear. I need to turn the starwheel back down a little. Since I did the pump, it actually holds peak boost now, as where before it would hit peak boost and start falling off.

I did have to replace and relocate the fuel pressure sensor. I had it screwed directly into the banjo bolt coming off the filter housing. The pressure spikes from the pump is I'm sure what killed it. I ended up putting a needle valve in the banjo bolt>18" grease gun hose>sensor. There wasn't really a good way to make a mount for the sensor until this jumped out at me. It fits pretty well and has no vibration there so I stuck a zip tie around it just to keep it snug. It will work until I clean up the engine bay.

Very nice! That thing looks right at home on there

Trick headache rack Travis! :waytogo:

I would like to build one for my truck one day...might have to steal your design. :D

do you mind snapping some pics of your exhaust?.. its really tight on mine with the divorced tcase
