Clifford Project - '88 Cummins CrewCab

Question on the clutch set up. Is there any advantage to running the slave off the brake master cylinder vs. using separate clutch master cylinder other than not having to mount an additional component? I have never seen that done before and seems like a great idea.

Interesting your the first I've heard of using steel bi's. Your not worried about rust and clumping?

Nah. They're cheaper than airsoft, and you don't have to use as many. Plus they make a cool sound when you come to a stop. :D

No advantage either way. I guess if you lose your brakes, you lose your clutch, but you shouldn't be driving without brakes anyway. The Europeans do it from the factory all the time. Since I run a European shop, that's what made me think of it.

Clutch and gov spring are in. Tranny won't be ready until next week :frown1: Still waiting on the fuel pin too. Guess I'll work on cleaning up wiring this weekend. If the pin comes in today or tomorrow, I might go ahead and do the injection pump mods too.

Think this will hold?

Very nice!

Is that from Southbend?

I seriously doubt it, most street clutches from SBC are fully lined they used to do puck style for competition clutches though.

Who's clutch is that? Oh yeah I looked up Copperhead's on ebay this morning....9oz packet $7. Yeah they are cheaper! LOL Will have to try that if my 37's ever get here.

Valair. It's their Kevlar/Ceramic 13" upgrade

Check Wallyworld. You can get a big bottle of them, enough to do 4-5 tires for under $15.

So are you still swapping to a NV4500 I take it? Will the xfer case on the gretrag work on the nv4500?

Yep, still going NV4500. I think the builder is waiting for the second coming of Christ to get it to me, but that's the plan. T-case is divorced so no issue there. Having them put a Chevy output on it so that it's a fixed yoke instead of slip like the Dodge is, and I don't have to change the length of the jack shaft, just the u-joint. I should just have to cut another shifter hole about 5" back and modify the tranny x-member a little.

Sitting at the hospital right now waiting for my first little one to come out. Will be pulling her out in about an hour and a half. :woot:

Dumb question...what trucks did divorced 205's come in? I've heard Ford's mentioned, but did any come in Chevy or Dodge trucks?

Congrats on the new arrival!

Baby came about 10 Monday night. Everyone is doing great and should be home shortly. :thumb:

Picking the tranny up today or tomorrow. Waiting on them to scrounge up a couple more parts.

Congrats on the new arrival :waytogo:

On the divorced 205's , GM did use them (don't know the years though, and there weren't many) as well as ford , dodge and even international.

Love the truck by the way  If I weren't into it as far as I am I would seriously consider going back to a gasser in the K5 and finding a CC for my 12v , but that would require a bigger garage and even more down time :doah:

.

South Bend does use puck style plates on their "street dual disc" clutches, depending on plate load the use a 6 puck or 12 puck setup.

I didn't say they DO NOT use them, just most of their "street dual disc's" are fully lined disc's. I'm sure they probably still offer the 6 & 12 puck style clutches, however once you get up towards the 12 puck your getting into "competition level" clutches. Like the 3850lb plate load 12 ceramic button clutch I ran in my Cummins pulling truck for the last several years.:waytogo:

Cleaned up most of the wiring over the weekend. Alternator is now charging, but I think the voltage regulator may be shot because of how it was hooked up. I'm getting 15.3V at the batteries at idle now.

Got the tranny in last night. Still have to hook everything up but it's bolted in.

Clearance from top of shifter to bottom of frame - Tires on the ground, tranny on the ground....about 3" to spare.

Chevy 2WD tail housing. With the trans in the truck it looks like I might get away with the same mount as the Getrag. We'll see tonight. You can see some of the wiring I cleaned out from under the hood laying in the background.

On the second day of driving with the new tranny. It shifts a lot better!! Going to turn up the pump and build a new floor plate for the cab this weekend. This ****er is loud when you have 1.5 sqft hole above the tranny!!

I bet it is!!:haha:
I drove mine with open headers and no trans cover... just around the yard.

Your truck is turning out real cool.:waytogo:
Wanna sell it.:D
