Colby`s First gen Duramax 01 lb7

We have been hearing good recommendations for Cooper tires Colby’s going to give these stt pros a try. Just waiting for them to get mounted today.

I used to run the stt pro on some of our utility trucks in Moab and my old super duty and they did great. I might run them on my dually. I wish the made a tire taller than a 285/75R16 but skinnier than a 315/75R16. He will like them. What size did you go with?

These are 285/70/17s

Colby picked the tires up today and chucked them back on the truck after work. We took it for a road test... nice and quiet on the highway, not a lot of rock throwing on gravel, and balanced nice. Plus they look tits!

540238 km on the truck. reminder of when the tires where put on. About 60 thousand km on the last set of BFGS, that aren’t shot but not great.

Well the tires work great really good in deep compact snow. So good the engine blew the head gaskets again while travelling oil lease roads hunting white tail.
So deer hunting was a bust. Truck is hurt and parked for a long term rest. We pulled the tires off the 01 and put them on my 02 so he can drive it to work if it snows to much for him to take the car.

He is going to look for a newer Duramax to buy and fix the old 01 one day as a project.

For now he’s stuck with my old crew cab.

How many miles/klm on it Dean?
Didnt it have a tuner as well, and do you think that was a factor at all?

540klms 130 hp tune definitely had everything to do with it! and when we did the gaskets a few years ago we should have got the heads resurfaced. It really never has been perfect. Boosted snow driving this year didn’t help. It runs fine but we are done with it for now. If we had a good spot in the shop for it to sit for a few months we would rip it down. Fock it, it can sit. It will get fixed but not now.
Colby found a few 2012 Duramaxs to look at, and I found a couple Cummins trucks that looked good too.

Thats gotta be a sweet ride!
Hows it compare to your 12 Dean?

I cannot like a Dodge post but glad he found what sounds like a good one.

To be honest we looked for a Duramax. But this one came up and it hit all the requirements we were looking for. Besides the Dodge part. Lol!
Funny thing is Katelyn’s 01 Dodge has been super reliable and my 02 and Colby’s 01 Duramax are both focked! :haha:

Got Colby’s old 01 parked in our cold machine shop. Parked safe for probably a couple years till he pays for the new Dodge and has time for it.

The new Coopers and H2s are going on the Dodge.
@76zimmer Colbys loving the Dodge!
And I can say the between his and the 12 Duramax we got I wouldn’t care what one we drove. Both very nice! The Dodge rides better, the Duramax is faster. The seats in the Duramax are softer. But the Dodge has more options. Will be fun to compare actually after some time!?
