colbystephens' '73 blazer build!

No tv!?!? Good god I'd die lol
I believe so. It's Xtreme 4x4 on spike tv. I'm sure you can find it. Bumper went on a 69 scout. Brand new episode today so that should help you search

We do watch quite a few shows on Hulu, but just have no use for a TV. :) Many of the other students I know at school also do not have TV's. It's the way of the future. :D

have you seen his wife? :eek1: :haha: sorry Colby, couldn't resist... :wink1:

:wink1: It's true, that woman is smokin! :pimp: We went snow showing yesterday, and I definitely was intentionally about "bringing up the rear." :haha:

P.S. We all hate you.

(We only tolerate you so you'll keep putting pics of her up.)

check it out! you could even lower it by remote! how could would that be. it'd be like an ominous sign of something important happening when that thing dropped. lol

I bought/scored this winch today. Went to HF just to get a tarp for the coming storm for my truck, the old tarp is getting old, was time for a new one. They were having there typical sidewalk sale and there was a "opened box" table with items on sale. I asked if it was a return, they said no just had been opened so it was a extra discounted price. I opened it up, didn't seem to be missing anything. Regular price is $139.99 marked down to $89.99. I'm probably going to use this to raise and lower my tire carrier setup. It said on the box "5 day only return warranty" I said to the manager that that was lame. He said he would do the regular 30 day full refund return on it. I got it in writing too.

The one listed above by Smokinthehippies is a 2K for $69.99, mine is only a 1500 lb unit but it's an AC 110v plug in, and 1500 lb is plenty strong enough. I'm going to have a plug in in the back of my truck for it and accessories too. My unit is portable as long as I have power. I plugged it in, spooled it out and in, works great unloaded. Not too slow for a tire carrier drop down at all. Sure it's a cheap import but it actually seems like a quality winch for what it is. I'm stoked!! :D In fact I'm posting a thread on it.

interesting! i need to re-up my membership so I can take a look at those pics. :D Should be able to do it early next month. It's either the membership this month or the receiver tube for a hitch on the new bumper right now. I'm going to wait on the membership for a couple weeks. :wink1:

Just copy the HF link you will be able to google it.

i like that. i'll have to decide if the 41lbs is worth it. i'll try it out for a while without and see how much of a PITA it is. :D

It might be cool to put one of those round fabric coolers in the center of the tire to hold food or drinks. No tables needed, just drop it down at lunch time on the trail.

i'm in a holding pattern at the moment. i got major sick last weekend so I couldn't work. now i've got big projects due at school. should be able to finish the bumper up on Friday though. :) also had to order two more fabricator's sets from DIY4x. ;)

if you're able on Thursday evening to come to town, I'm having a gallery opening in Ashland. It's at the University at:

Art Building 117
1250 Siskiyou Blvd.
Ashland, OR 97520

This is the work I'm showing:

It goes from 5 to 7 pm and will have food and drink. Four other galleries are opening then. You should come! You'd be welcome to come over to my place afterward for a beer and to look at what I've done so far on the bumper.

Thanks. ;) I'm a sculpture major and will graduate with a bachelor of fine arts after next winter quarter... basically exactly a year from now.

Colby,

The photos are throwing me. In the first photo it looks like the sawdust is directly underneath the sculpture (makes sense, every tree I've ever seen that has simultaneously divested itself into symmetrical pucks always has some sawdust underneath! :D)

The second photo makes it look like the sawdust is almost in a different room, or maybe at the entrance to the room where your sculpture is?..... almost like a velvet rope to keep visitors from getting too close??

Either way, well done.

:waytogo:

:usaflag:

Look at the shadows. The saw dust is in the foreground in the top pic and the bottom pic is from the rear (inside the "room").

well, to continue my own thread hijack... :D

Does that help? :D

This piece is called Deconstruction. The basic idea is that for me the wilderness is a perfect location for introspection and personal growth. I am like the tree - constantly being dissected and constantly being sanded down as I analyze my faults and places I need to grow. Sometimes it's helpful to look back on how far I've come to remember that it is worth it to keep pressing onward - to keep putting myself through the pain of growth. The sawdust is evidence of the past. There's beauty in looking back at the process that I've been through. The tree will always have imperfections, so the idea is more about the process that happens - just like life. I'll never reach a state of perfection, but I can keep moving toward it. The roots at either end suggest that growth is neither static nor uni-directional, but rather a continual oscillating process.

That's all the conceptual stuff that I bring to it. My artist statement is much less deep for this piece. It basically says that I'm inviting the viewer to come in and analyze the imperfections of the piece and simultaneously go into a state of introspection so the viewer can grow. ;)

Funny! :D

That's really cool.

Do you have something to keep the "discs" from rotating and bumping one another or do they hang free to pivot at will?
