Okay now your comment makes sense.I run Baldwin or delco filters. The Baldwin is the cheapest I'll go at 35-40 depending on where you get it. Delcos are almost twice that. Been screwed with a cheap filter before.
I run rotella t6 and a Baldwin filter for oil. The 2.5 gal jug is 75 bucks on sale, and the filter is another 15-20.
I used to change the oil every 5-6k, and fuel filter every other oil change. Now since I only put 1500 miles a year, I just change it once a year. That will always cost more than its gasser equivalent, just by volume alone.

1. Not sure on your filter pricing. I get Wix filters for under $20.
2. You are using expensive oil. You are using full synthetic and were dumping it at 5K, and now only 1500 miles? You can get Carquest/Napa/Oriellys brand 15 40 for $12 per gallon.
3. You were changing that oil way to soon (IMHO obviously)
4. 1500 miles a year is not utilizing said vehicle in an efficient manner. Not being a jerk with #4, it's just simply not utilizing the oil change, tires will rot before being balled, cost of insurance/reg per mile etc.
3 gallons of regular oil and a filter shouldn't cost someone more than $60 and that should last nearly 10K or 1 year for the average driven Dmax/Cummins/PSD.

After 2 years you can reassess your needs and move on to the next vehicle while still getting most of your money back on the resale.

3. Yes your opinion. I also change the oil in my wheeling rig every year too. Dispite putting less than 500 miles on it.
I know my situation it's not like everyone else's. When I want to use my vehicles, I want to make sure they are in tip top condition.
4. It's been paid off since I bought it 8 years ago with cash. It gets stored in a heated garage, and the insurance is reduced to storage. The tires are still in great shape with no rot. It doesn't see salt or winter.
That being said I love my dmax and wouldn't trade it, unless for a newer dmax.
but.... with all due respect... saying that the maintenance costs for diesel is much higher for anyone because it happens to be the case for your personal situation, doesn't necessarily make it accurate for vehicles used in their intended purpose/use.
